Hello.
Background: I first got a positive herpes 2 test when I was 19 (in 2017) two months after my mono symptoms went away. I had very severe mono symptoms (really enlarge lymph nodes in my neck, severe fatigue, etc.) and after my severe symptoms went away I still struggled with a little fatigue leading up to my positive results. The reason I got tested was because I had burning urine and a lot of soreness in my vagina. I had no rash. I’m not sure if these are typical herpes symptoms. On the urine test they did I tested positive for some sort of bacterial infection. My partner that I had unprotected sex twice with at the time was also experiencing symptoms (had a rash of some sort) but after multiple herpes tests he was negative.
I remember my IgM and IgG both being very high. The provider at the time told me to re-test since she said it was possible the mono antibodies cross reacted with the tests. I requested a full panel test 2 years ago from my new OBGYM and was told I was negative. However, I saw on my test results last year that she did a swab and not the blood test for herpes. I checked with all my sexual partners and they all were negative. I’ve had zero herpes symptoms.I tested in June 2022 for herpes 2 with Labcorp (value 3.93) with a positive supplemental test. I then got the confirmation test later in September 2022 with Quest Diagnostics with a 5.33 value and a 93.7 H inhibition.
My questions are:
1) Can mono influence antibody results? Is that why my values were so high at the time? And why I might be having positive results still?
2) Did the symptoms I mention align with herpes 2?
3) Based on the values, should I get the western blot? Do you think I am still positive? -

Also do you know of any labs in Los Angeles that will draw blood and ship the western blot for me?

We don’t know what gives false positives on the IgG test. How many sex partners had you had by that time in your life?
2) Did the symptoms I mention align with herpes 2?
Perhaps, yes
3) Based on the values, should I get the western blot? Do you think I am still positive?
It’s so hard to say honestly. Most 19 year olds don’t have HSV 2, which is kind of what is throwing me. If you have any question, get the blot and we have a terrific place in LA to get the bloods drawn for the blot, testTerri
