Recently got tested due to unprotected sex encounter. Not sure if I have had it for awhile or not. Have no symptoms. Should I expect different IgG results if I take again in a few days. I did pay for a PCR test but can’t schedule prior to November 14th.
IgG results
HSV1 is 3.08 above high normal positive.
HSV2 is <.91 negative
Just need to know if there is a chance the HSV1 result is a fake positive and how easily is this transmissable via kissing?
I think the positive HSV 1 is very likely that you have HSV 1. Without any history of cold sores, we cannot know if your infection is oral or genital unless you have a lesion in either location. And absolutely do NOT do the PCR test if it is from blood. Herpes isn’t normally in your blood do the test is worthless. PCR should be done only from swabs, not blood.

Thank you for replying. This test was done 3 weeks after encounter. Is it worth waiting longer and retesting? With no symptoms how would I determine if it is oral or genital? Is there a timeline when I should expect to see some symptoms?
The encounter may or may not have anything to do with this positive HSV 1 result.
HSV 1 is the cause of cold sores which can appear in the nose or on the edge of the lip and people can have this infection since childhood, without even knowing they have it. Without cold sores or genital sores, it isn’t possible to know where the infection is. About half the US population between 14 and 49 has HSV 1 infection so very common. Don’t let the term “herpes” indicate a sexually transmitted infection, when we are talking about HSV 1. That may or may not be true.
