Hi Terri,
Back in June 2022, I dated a lady who was HSV1 and HSV2 positive. She contracted it several years prior and wasn’t taking antivirals at the time of our encounters. The last encounter was in July 2022. Used protection 3/4 times. She performed oral. Used protection for intercourse 3 out of 4 times. Never kissed. That was my last sexual interaction.
No lesions but have been having a prickly sensation in the groin area sporadically, I think it’s from saving. Also, a single bump will show up in the pubic area, which I think is an ingrown hair.
6 weeks after the last exposure (late August 2022) I got tested by my PCP.
Results from Quest: HSV1 1.29 positive…..HSV2 Negative.
Got a full panel test earlier this month via Quest.
Results: HSV1 1.30 HSV2 1.05 Equivocal. HSV2 Confirmation test was Negative.
Tested again yesterday for HSV1 only via Labcorp. 1.36 Positive.
Are these HSV1 results false positives? The number seems to be increasing as well. I know ultimately I should take the WB test.
I never got tested before all of this so if I am truly HSV1 positive there is no telling who or when. Never had a cold sore.
Thanks
To clarify, oral sex from her was unprotected. Her last OBs were a year or 2 prior. I am not sure if the prickly sensations are mind tricks or what.
If I do in fact have HSV1 then it’s probably GHSV1 from her or maybe I picked it up from an asymptomatic partner in the past or a relative as a kid.
With your low positive IgG results, it just isn’t possible to know if you have HSV 1 or not. And if you do the blot and test positive for HSV 1, you will not know if the infection is oral or genital. the small change in index values is not significant. You can work with your own provider to get the blot or you can work with me, if you decide to do it. Both work well.
Terri
