Hello I have a question I went to a walk in center and saw a pa for what I thought was possible yeast/uti they drew blood and I didn’t realize they had drawn blood for herpes they drew igm the results are confusing they only say
Hsv 1 <1.10 (reference 1.10)
Hsv 2 < 1.10 (reference 1.10) there is nothing else doesn’t say positive negative I’ve never had a cold sore I didn’t have sores or anything on my vagina at the time just white discharge and some burning urination. What do these results mean and why would they have drawn them?
What a shame that someone is so uneducated about herpes that they would ever do an IgM test – and even worse, ONLY an igM test? The CDC STD guidelines very clearly state that IgM testing should never be done ever. There results are negative by meaningless, I’m afraid. If it were me, I would print out the CDC guidelines about HSV testing, highlight the section about IgM testing, take it in to the PA and say you refuse to pay for this, period.
Did they do a physical exam and see something that they thought was a herpes lesion is that why they did any blood antibody testing?
Terri
