Just received a negative immunoblot for HSV-2 and Positive for HSV-1 (Labcorp). I was aware of my HSV 1 status which I’ve had almost all my life so no surprise there. This negative blot test was after testing equivocal .95 through (Quest) for HSV-2. I’m reluctant to trust the Immunoblot because it doesn’t provide an igg range. The test only reflects a negative or positive result so that is what has me nervous to trust the test and continue on with my life.
Quest Diag Equivocal Test result release 27 May (Website recommended Immunoblot)
Immunoblot test taken on 27 May with a negative result release on 2 June
Purchased a 10 panel test through stdcheck 3 June to compare Labcorp regular HSV 2 results to Quest.
Results came back 4 June for HSV 2 at 1.11. Recommended to take a immunoblot through the site as a confirmatory test. I purchase the test this morning and went straight to the lab. If this immunoblot also comes back negative what are the chances I do not have HSV 2. I’m worried because I stepped outside my current relationship (rough oral and rubbing of genitals together skin to skin.
Disclosure would break-up my family (please don’t judge). I realize now it was foolish and thought that I honestly could get away with it because I thought it was safe since no vaginal or anal sex took place.
Timeline
Exposure 24 March
Test Negative at 4 and 6 weeks
27 May Quest Equivocal .95 also had COVID 1.5 weeks prior
27 May Immunoblot test (NEGATIVE) on 2 June
31 May 10 Panel Test at Lab Corp
4 June HSV 2 range 1.11 recommended Immunoblot
4 Purchase Immunoblot and Tested this morning.
Should I trust the negative immunoblot since that was the confirmation test recommended 10 weeks after potential exposure and assume I’m negative?
Thoughts
Worried and can’t sleep!
I would never judge! I think it is very likely that you are not infected with HSV 2 due to an equivocal, then a negative, and then a very low positive. I would of course recommend the western blot which is a better test than the immunoblot but it just depends upon how certain you want to be about this.
