I’m confused about quest inhibition assay test, the % inhibition what is that really measuring?
I did normal HSV test and confirmation inhibition assay on same day same blood draw and regular test came back with 1.64 igg and confirmation test 3.99 with 90% inhibition.
Is it normal for the igg to vary so much between tests when they were drawn at same time?
Sigh. For me, the Quest testing is just not fully reliable. We’ve seen IA that are positive with a negative western blot and IA that are negative with a negative western blot. I’m just not clear that this is a great confirmatory test.
Here is what Quest says about the inhibition assay:
The HSV-2 IgG inhibition assay measures the differential abilities of lysates of cells infected with HSV-1 or HSV-2 to neutralize patient sample reactivity to recombinant gG2 protein (rgG2), the HSV-2–specific protein used in the HerpeSelect HSV-2 IgG ELISA.2
Honestly, I don’t fully understand what this means. I wish I understood it more clearly.
The igG that is run for each of these tests are different, they are not the same, so those IgG results will vary.
It’s difficult for me to guide you on what to believe about this result since we have seen them agree with the blot and not agree with the blot.
Terri
