Hi Terri.
Two years ago I cut myself shaving and my doctor saw the scratch and said I needed to be tested for HSV 2. The culture came back negative but the original IGG blood result came back as high – greater than 5.0. I wrote to you back then because I had never had an outbreak and my partner of three years (unprotected sex) tested negative. I first went the homepathic route with herbs etc., then did ozone therapy and then started a course of traditional medicine. I still have never had an outbreak. I took other blood tests along the way. The last one I took said I had an IGG of 11.80. If this number seems too high, could the test have measured something else besides just antibodies for HSV 2?
Thanks. -

In index value of 11 is indeed substantial I’m almost certainly indicates infection. Your previous test with an index value of five probably had a” greater than” sign in front of it without specifying the actual number. I believe that you should consider yourself infected even though you are not recognizing outbreaks. Remember that with genital herpes infection, outbreaks can appear anywhere in the boxer shorts area, not only the genital area. Please be observing this entire area for any outbreaks. The good news is that people who are infected but do not experience outbreaks shed virus less often than those who do have outbreaks.
The antibody test for herpes only picks up antibody to herpes with very few exceptions

Thanks.Terri. I have a another general area of questioning as I just recently found out the two partners I’ve had in life both tested negative – IGG tests. Would it be possible to get HSV 2 antibodies during a blood transfusion? If someone who unknowingly had HSV 2 donated blood, would it be logical to think the antibodies would transfer? Would the virus transfer too?
Thanks. -

No, you would not get HSV 2 from a blood transfusion.
You’ve had no other partners in your lifetime? If you have had no other partners, get a blot!Terri

Thanks! So just confirming, while I wouldn’t get the disease, would the antibodies that would be in a donor’s blood show up in my blood? I am going to get a blot.

If you got a blood transfusion and there were herpes antibody in the blood donated, they would rapidly disappear because no new antibody would be made unless you your self were infected. Does that make sense? I’m glad you’re going to get the blot.
You didn’t answer my question about have you had other partners in your lifetime besides these two who tested negative. You don’t have to answer me but it would help me guide you. This is your final post on this subscription. If you have more questions, feel free to renew.
