Hi Terri, I need help.
I am a 24 M. Very active and live a healthy lifestyle, no past medical history.
I tested positive for gHSV2 with the following dates and levels (IGG):
8/27/22 – 1.3
09/04/22 – 2.1
09/30/22 – 1.09 (w/ reflux supplemental)I’ve tested negative multiple times in the past for HSV2 until now. HSV1 remains negative.
When I first tested positive, I had no symptoms that made me get tested. It was just a routine screening. Symptoms didn’t occur until a week after.
What I thought was my first outbreak did not have visible lesions. It felt as if my entire anal, perineum, and buttocks was on fire at the same time, probably the worst I felt. I did not have any urination pain, however the area was significantly warmer than usual. That persisted for (2-4 weeks). A doctor evaluated me 2x at different times during this episode and stated that everything looks fine, that it was just in my head.
It was about less than a week of feeling “normal” down there until the burning symptoms came back since the first episode. What confuses me is that the burning started in my butt crack area then moves to my inner thighs and then to my buttocks, each taking about 2-3 days at an individual time, it’s unresponsive to antivirals which makes me sick as a dog (both Valtrex & Famvir + Advil doesn’t do much to help) and I still develop no lesions. No urethral or inner-anal pain.
Im on the verge of losing my mind again (I had a suicidal event because of it) because anything I do to try to manage the symptoms doesn’t work. It feels like this is controlling me and I can’t seem to control it.
I don’t know what to do or if this is even HSV2.
Please help.

Additional fact – the “burning” pain decreased after been prescribed gapapentin.
I also do notice that a portion of my scrotum is pinker than usual, no lesions, no pain and itches from time to time. -

Reference Value
test 1: Quest Diagnostic
Negative <0.90
Equivocal 0.90-1.09
Positive >1.90test 2: no reference values
test 3: LabCorp
A second sample should be collected and tested no less than 2-4 weeks.
Negative <0.91
Equivocal 0.91 – 1.09
Positive >1.09 -

I think it is unlikely that you have HSV 2. You need a herpes western blot for clarification. You’ve had one very low positive and one equivocal result. Has the provider that ordered the test not ordered confirmation of some kind? If you are upset about this enough to consider suicide, don’t you think it would be good to know if you actually have this or not? Your symptoms do not sound herpetic to me.
When did you last have a sexual encounter that could have resulted in a new herpes infection? Timing of the testing is very important.
