i have been having sex with 1 person for a year and a half. We used no protection. He likes to have anal sex and I finally began to give in to this. We had sex in April and about a month later I found a bump on my but that I thought was a boil. Went to quick care and Dr stated it looked like herpes. Though I didn’t believe it I had blood work done about 2 months later and tested positive for genital herpes. I never had any signs/symptoms prior. Did I get it from him? Is there a correlation between the point of the outbreak (butt) and is this where it will always affect me?

Do you mean that you tested positive for HSV 2? Do you know the numeric value that went along with this positive test result?
There is no way to know now, aside from him being tested and testing negative, that you can know where this came from. If he is positive and so are you, then it could have come from either of your to either of you.
Was the bump near your anus or on you buttocks cheek?

I don’t know the number but I got a blood test. The bump was my buttocks cheek. He says he went to the VA to get tested with blood work. He had not disclosed the results to me nor do I know the kind of test he got.

I responded that it occurred on my buttocks. Is this going to happen the same way each time I have an outbreak?

Not necessarily. The outbreaks can be anywhere between waist and mid-thigh. I suspect if the first recognized outbreak was on the buttocks, it may well be a recurrence rather a first infection. My experience with people who get buttocks outbreaks is that they last longer and recur a bit more often than those other places. the skin is thicker so it takes longer to heal. But only time will tell if yours will stay there or move around more on the nerve.

I don’t understand what you mean when you say stay there or move around more on the nerve and it was the first time I ever had something like that happen on my buttocks and I’ve never had any thought of herpes. I’m 65 years old. Is my age a factor?

So herpes lives in the nerve set that supplies an area from your waist to your mid-thigh. The virus can travel on any branch of that nerve, showing up anywhere in that area – genitals, buttocks, anus, belly, thigh.
Even if you have never had an outbreak on your buttocks before, it still could be that this in not a new infection for you and unless the blood test was done immediately with the outbreak, you can’t know if the antibody was present because of a new infection or an old infection.
If your partner tests negative for HSV 2 antibody, then you will know that this did not come from him and that you have had the infection for a while.
Your age is not a factor in any of this.

Thanks Teri but I was wondering, if this has something to do with the nerve , will it be painful when I have the reoccurances? Shortly after the bump occurred the first time it came back a couple weeks later. I attributed this to the fact that I didn’t take all of the medicine which was Cephlex. The dr said it looked like herpes and I said it was impossible. However it kept nagging at me so I went to get the blood work done a few
Months later. As of yet I haven’t had any major pain. -

Not all herpes hurts, but in my experience again, people usually have some pain with buttocks lesions. So no swabbing was done of the bump at all? Not bacterial and not viral either? But they prescribed antibiotics?
I think it is important for me to help you best for you to get a copy of your blood work results, OK? I want you to post exactly what it says.
