Recently found out that a guy who I had unprotected anal sex with a couple weeks back (I was the top), just had a major herpes outbreak around the outside of his anus.
Now I’m overly concerned – and have noticed that the tip of my penis/urethra is red, the lips around the opening are swollen, and there is a slight burning sensation. Is this a possible herpes outbreak? Should I get this swapped by a clinic. I got a full std screening this week – but they don’t test for herpes unless there is an outbreak.
Help!!

I don’t see a herpes lesion in the picture but honestly the picture isn’t great and its’ very hard for me to see much. I would expect if this is a new herpes outbreak for you that you would experience more. Is he thinking that you gave him herpes or the other way around?
Are you saying that you can’t get an antibody test or that one just wasn’t done for you when you got an STD screen? If the person with whom you had sex thinks that you gave this to him, that he has never had this before, then I would strongly recommend that you get a type specific IgG antibody test – do NOT bother with an IgM test.
I’m sure I don’t need to mention that condoms with anal sex would be a great idea. Perhaps you thought that since you had an STD screen (did he?) that this was not risky?

Yes. The guy I had anal intercourse is saying that I gave him herpes. I went to the std clinic and they said they didn’t do blood tests for herpes, but if I had a breakout they could take a swab and test that way.
I have never had an outbreak before, but now I’m over worries and analyzing every mark and irregularity I see.
The tip of my penis is sensitive, there is a slightly noticeable timgling (not quite “burning”) sensation while at rest or peeling. It seems less inflamed today.
Is this something that a doctor would see and swab to make sure? Already got a full std screening and waiting back for results. But they did not do a herpes test and will not until I have an outbreak.
And yes – condoms with anal sex moving forward. We were both HIV negative, so didn’t think to wear one. Lesson learned.

I believe that you need to get a herpes antibody test, IgG only. You can order this test yourself online, if you live in the US, very easy indeed. Do you want to try to figure that out? If you have trouble, let me know. I like the healthcheckusa.com website for doing this. It works quite well. Given the circumstances, I think this is very important. You could have been aysmptomatically shedding the virus. Were you the giver of oral sex to him also? Did he have the herpes outbreak tested and typed?
