› Forums › Herpes Questions › Is this a false positive? (HSV-1)
I am a male, age 27.
– 8/15/20 = normal test result
– 6/22/21 = kissing and fellatio; no sexual activities after this
– Few months later = I noticed one small wart-like lesion above genital. I’ve had something similar before and the doctors said it was nothing. I assumed it is HPV. It did not hurt at all. I remember having it in October 2021 and I STILL have it today, so it’s been there for at least seven months. Recently I put some Salicylic Acid on it and accidentally kind of burned the skin a little. It’s healing.
– 5/3/22 = Positive for HSV-1, 1.22 IGG, LabCorp
1) What is the likelihood this is a false positive?
2) Since I have had that lesion for 7 months now, it is unlikely it is a herpes lesion, right?
3) If my last sexual encounter was 10-11 months from receiving the positive result, shouldn’t my IGG levels be higher if it is a real positive?
4) Would it helpful to wait a bit and get a test from Quest to confirm? Do they use a different test? How long should I wait?
Thank you.
1) What is the likelihood this is a false positive?
I don’t have an actual number for that but it is certainly possible.
2) Since I have had that lesion for 7 months now, it is unlikely it is a herpes lesion, right?
Correct, absolutely not.
3) If my last sexual encounter was 10-11 months from receiving the positive result, shouldn’t my IGG levels be higher if it is a real positive?
Yes, one would think so, but not every single time. But most often, it would be much higher
4) Would it helpful to wait a bit and get a test from Quest to confirm? Do they use a different test? How long should I wait?
No, you’ve waiting long enough. Both tests have false positives, Quest and LabCorp. If you want the best test, it is the herpes western blot
