I am hoping to have some of my questions answered on this site. I have not had any painful symptoms of herpes as many people mention. My gynae found ulcers on my cervix he swabbed them but all the results from the lab say is retest in 6 months. The blood tests that they did say negative for HSV 1 and positive for HSV 2. I had unprotected sex on the Monday and on the Saturday he diagnosed me. If there were symptoms they only lasted 1 day which was blood when I wiped and it was painful during intercourse which I put down to the fact that I hadn’t had sex since October last year and that he was well endowed!
I am a little confused as people say the results can be negative if u haven’t had it for a long time and I only had those ulcers on my cervix, no where else!I also have questions regarding being intimate.
1) if the ulcers where on my cervix and we fool around but don’t have sex, and the person doesn’t have symptoms after a week, can they have got it?
2)if the person that I think infected me doesn’t have any symptoms, what does that mean?
3) why did the doctor in the beginning say to me “you can have an std test but you don’t have to have one?”
4) if the ulcers are on my cervix and there were no symptoms for the first time, how am I to know when and if I have another outbreak?
5) if the ulcers are only on my cervix, is it safer to have intercourse (with a condom of course) than it is if the lesions/blisters are on my vagina?
6) because I didn’t have symptoms the first time and I still am in no pain whatsoever even having the ulcers, should I be tested again?
7) because there are no symptoms and no where is painful and this is my first outbreak, can I go onto Valtrex for the rest of my life to ensure I don’t pass this on?Sorry for all the this, I am just so confused.
Thanks -

If you infected with HSV 2, you can shed virus from anywhere in the genital tract, including the labia. I’m not sure what you mean by fooled around, can you be more specific?2)if the person that I think infected me doesn’t have any symptoms, what does that mean?
It can either mean that they are not really infected, that they aren’t recognizing their symptoms, or that they are completely asymptomatic but can still shed virus.3) why did the doctor in the beginning say to me “you can have an std test but you don’t have to have one?”
No idea what he meant
4) if the ulcers are on my cervix and there were no symptoms for the first time, how am I to know when and if I have another outbreak?
If your HSV 2 antibody test was positive, then this is not your first infection. Also, you cannot know when you are having outbreaks on your cervix.5) if the ulcers are only on my cervix, is it safer to have intercourse (with a condom of course) than it is if the lesions/blisters are on my vagina?
see the answer to question 16) because I didn’t have symptoms the first time and I still am in no pain whatsoever even having the ulcers, should I be tested again?
Your antibody test is positive, you don’t need to be tested again.
7) because there are no symptoms and no where is painful and this is my first outbreak, can I go onto Valtrex for the rest of my life to ensure I don’t pass this on?
Taking Valtrex daily reduces the risk of transmission by almost half, regardless of whether you have no symptoms or not.

Thanks for answering my Questions Terri. I think I am still in denial/shock and need to come to terms with living with this. I am incredibly sad and anxious. I feel like I will never have a normal relationship again. I feel like no one will accept me for this or will love me. I am so disappointed in myself. I don’t want to see anyone or speak to anyone at all. I don’t really know how to live with this and to cope either.
I still keep thinking that the doctor is wrong and the test that was done was wrong as well but it properly isn’t although the result from the swap all it says is retest in 6 months??? No idea what that means. I don’t know if maybe because I had my wisdom teeth out and developed phlebitis from the IV and the many anti biotics I was on could have caused these results? I guess I just need to come to terms with this and retest the Pap smear in 6 months as per the lab results.

Do you have the index values of the test result? It might be worth looking at that to see if there is a chance that it is a false positive. If it is below 3.5 then you should have a confirmatory test. Antibiotics do not make a false positive. Let me know the index value and perhaps there is a chance of a false positive.

This is what the results say:
Nature of specimen: liquid based cytology
Diagnosis: Atypical scquomius cells of undetermined significance. But suggestive of a low grade intraepithelial lesion are present
Recommendations: retest smear after 6 monthsThen:
Chlamydia Elisa IGG : negative <5.00Herpes IGM: positive
Herpes 1 IGG negative
Herpes 2 IGG positiveNo numbers are given for this though but the notes say that it could be a recurrent HSV 2 or a primary or both.
That is all there is unless there is a way for me to send the actual lab results to you.

So they are suggesting redoing the pap (most certainly), not the herpes test. My only suggestion is to try to get the actual index value of the positive HSV 2 test. It actually is important as the test has some false positives.
