Hi Terri,
I tested positive for HSV-2 antibodies in March 2020 on an IgG test after my husband tested positive on a swab test during his first outbreak. I take 500mg of ValACYclovir everyday to reduce the likelihood of transmission and for peace of mind. I have never experienced an outbreak. I recently retested through LabCorp and the result was 11.10 on the HSV-2 Type Spec Ab, IgG w/Rflx. I have two partners with regular sexual contact and they continue to test negative on the same test. I do not typically worry about transmission or even disclosure with deep kissing. It’s recently come up with a new partner. I am waiting on whether or not kissing me is in their risk profile.
My question for you is-
Do you advise that I disclose my HSV-2 status going forward when I plan to deep kiss with random new people without any intent of doing anything else that may put them at risk?
Thank you!! -

HSV 2 oral infection is rare and if I were in your situation, I would not feel the need to disclose your HSV 2 status before deep kissing. We know that at least 95% of HSV 2 is genital, probably way more

Thank you so much, Terri! This puts me at much more ease about my current practices.
For my follow-up questions:
1. Can you please explain more about what the research says about index levels? Especially in regards to my high index level of 11.1. I truly do not recall a time I’ve had any symptoms or outbreak. Is that unusual with high index levels or could my antivirals be keeping them away?
2. Does this index level correlate at all to a higher rate of shedding and/or transmission? Thanks, again! This forum is a dream come true.

Research would say that it is very likely that an index value of 11.1 would confirm as positive by western blot but in the past week, I had someone with a 13.8 not confirm, so I’m not convinced that we can count on those high index values all the time

No, no relationship between shedding, transmission and index valuesTerri
