Hi Terri, I would love your advice please as I’m very confused and anxious.
I was with a new partner two weeks ago who had a cold sore the week before. I did not know that herpes could be transferred via oral sex (stupid, I know). He performed oral sex on me for at most… 30-45 seconds. That’s being generous.
For the last four days I’ve had sporadic itching in my genital area, along with thick white discharge. It’s important to note that I also have a small hemerrhoid.
The only other symptoms I’ve had are urine retention today, finding I have to push more to urinate, but no pain.
I’ve had no lesions/sores, no other symptoms.
I’ve not had any flu like symptoms but I have had chest pains and dizziness (I put this down to stress and lack of eating due to the stress though?).
I went to a doctor on the third day, they will be testing me but told me as I had some left over period blood in my swab (like a pap smear swab) it may not be accurate.
The doctor noted nothing visually wrong with me except an anal fissure (due to straining), and nothing to immediately note re the discharge.
Is it possible to have caught herpes within 30-45 seconds, after the cold sore healed?
I’ve been reading a lot online that’s making me nervous… I’m waiting for a sore to show up.
As it may be quite a while until I get any accurate results I was hoping to get some further advice from you.
Thank you so much for your time.

Is it possible? yes. Is it likely? No! If you have no sores at all in the genital area, I think a brand new herpes infection is very unlikely. have you ever in your life had a cold sore on your lip? If yes, then you already have the cold sore virus and are very unlikely to get it in a new location (genitals).
Keep in mind if you do the type specific IgG test, this one misses 30% of HSV 1 infections compared to the western blot
