I recently took a std panel through lab corp before getting intimate with a new partner. I am a 28 year old male one prior sexual partner 8 years ago, we were both virgins and always used protection. I have never had any symptoms but my hsv2 ig type specific test came back low positive (2.7) and my supplemental came back negative. My understanding is that a negative supplemental indicates a false positive if there is no recent exposure or chance of primary infection. Is this a false positive?
Was your partner eight years ago a virgin? if yes, then I’m sure this is a false positive. There is good agreement between a negative western blot AND a negative supplemental test. Am I 100% sure you don’t have HSV 2 if your first partner was not a virgin? NO, but pretty damn sure
