Hello Terri,
I’m so glad to have stumbled upon this site. Have read through most of the threads and hope I have the same successes as who have experienced false positives to full confirmed negative after using the Blot test.
Since i was young, I recall getting intermittent cold sores around my mouth area. Have always thought cold sores are like cold viruses and such. Given what i know now about herpes, it’s evident that I had HSV1 oral herpes. Fast forward to my adult years. I was married for 16 years and have been divorced now for 3 years. Prior to my marriage I had 3 boyfriends with relationships lasting anywhere from 1-3 years for each. Yes, unprotected sex for each. I’ve never had STI testing done except when i entered into a relationship with my ex husband. I think i just had the standard one done and don’t recall if herpes testing was part of it. My annual pap smear with whatever STI testings have always been clear.
After my divorce, i waited almost 2 years before entering the dating scene. I was not sexually active with any of my dates until last 2 months with 2 different guys. First guy, I met on 10/26/21 and we kissed on our first date. Second date was on 11/2/21 and we had unprotected sex since he claimed he was clean. Second guy, I met around 11/11 and we went on 3 consecutive dates. We mostly kiss and closest thing to penetration is when he rubs his penis against my clitoris and outer part of my vagina. During this time, my best friend shared her herpes story. That prompted me to get full 10 panel STD testing from Labcorp that included HSV1 and HSV2 on 12/1/21.
My results below:
HSV1 IGG >62.20 (cold sore last week that healed right before test)
HSV2 IGG/rflx 1.97
HSV2 IGG Supplemental – Abnormal with 2 results showing
– Flag = Positive
– Flag = NegativeI am confused by the supplemental tests results. Why does it show positive and negative? Could this be false positive by the high HSV1 number? What is the % based on HSV2

Additional info. Don’t recall any outbreak in the genatalia area throughout my adult life. No lesion, itching, or burning sensation that I Am aware of. Cold sores around the lip area I get when I get stressed or eat a lot of salty spicy f

I think the supplement results are very difficult to read but if it is red, it is positive.
But don’t believe it for one second. I now have 41 people who tested positive on the supplemental test and negative on the western blot.
Get the blot, even though it is expensive and cumbersome. This is a life long diagnosis. it needs to be correct.Terri

Yes, I want to avoid taking another IGG test. These last few weeks had me on edge trying to decipher what it meant to have one supplemental test show positive and the second show negative.
I’d like to proceed with getting the western blot through you. Please advise on next steps.

I took a second test (2 months after the initial test) and noticed the HSV2 IGG score from 1.98 to 1.78. My HSV1 IGG score also dropped from mid 60’s to 52. Given 1) my high HSV1 index score, 2) drop in HSV2 index score, and not 3) experiencing any weird symptoms in genital area…I feel more hopeful that my HSV2 diagnosis may be false positive. **Many thanks to all people who have shared their negative western blot test after receiving low positive HSV2 scores. You don’t know how much optimism you’ve injected into the population who are struggling with the uncertainty**
Terry, I have taken the steps to order the Western Blot test kit (last week) and booked an e-meeting with you for mid next week. While on your site, you shared that Quest and Labcorp may not draw the blood test needed for the Western Blot. Is there a list of labs in Southern California (LA County or Orange County)? I’d like to review in advance so I can plan any trips accordingly given work and child care schedule.
