Hi Terri, back in June my doctor gave me a STD test. Upon results i tested a low positive 2.59 for HSV2. I never had any symptoms or anything. Before testing i didn’t have any sexual contact for at least 6 weeks. With my anxiety it seems I check myself 10000 times a day. I retested 3 months later ( last week ) and my results came back again low positive but with a index of 2.21 this time. Now with that information is there a chance it is a false positive with how long in between tests? My last sexual contact never came out and said they had anything. So when the doctor came back and said i was positive i was shell shocked.

I’ve been reading and i read that since it’s been 3 months since my first test and it’s lower that there’s a pretty good chance it is a false positive. Just wanted your input… Thank you!!

There is definitely a reasonable chance that this is a false positive. The CDC recommends that anyone with an index value of 1.1 to 3.5 obtain a confirmatory test and the best is the western blot from the University of Washington. You can work with your own provider to get this or I can help you get this. If you need my help, you would need to schedule an evisit with me, on this website. Don’t believe this result yet!
