      Straight male, 37

12/25/21 – Received negative IGG HSV1, HSV2 results from LabCorp. Took the test because intermittent / long distance partner was having symptoms. She was later diagnosed positive, unsure of her type/score.

2/5/22 – Had condom protected intercourse with aforementioned partner.

2/7/22 – Noticed a single small red bump adjacent to base of penis. Growth continued into white head / pustule. Looked identical to photos of folliculitis, hair was in center. Additional small bump on base of penis a few days later, but cleared quickly. First bump healed completely in a few weeks. Tender when touched, but otherwise no pain or additional symptoms.

      3/28/22 – IGG Negative HSV1, Positive HSV2 3.84, positive supplemental

      4/4/22 – IGG Positive HSV2 3.15, positive supplemental

4/9/22 – Had unprotected sex with same partner, not realizing chance of false positives in the <3.5 range. No subsequent symptoms.

Curious of the likelihood of false positive for my situation? The lower result on second test has me hopeful.

Guessing a Western Blot confirmation is in order?

Can you elaborate on the things or reasons that might cause false positive IGG tests?

I am within driving distance of UW, they said they could pull blood sample on site, but would need the form from my primary. I do not currently have a primary doctor.

Hoping to expedite the process if possible. Kit has been ordered.

      Thanks in advance!

I forgot to mention that sexual contact before initial negative test on 12/25/21 was more than 12 weeks prior to that test date, somewhere around August 2021.

I think it is possible that you acquired HSV 2 from this partner who tested positive. Had she had a prior negative test? yes, there are false positives in the range you list and there are definitely false positives on the supplemental test as well with LabCorp. For the most accurate diagnosis, the western blot at UW is the best. If you decide to do it, I can help with an appointment on this website or you can work with your own provider to do this.
