Hello terri,
I’m a 27y (M) and about 2 months ago I had a ons that resulted in unprotected sex as well as unprotected oral which was performed on me. Out of just wanting to know I was ok I went to Labcorp to do a full panel, about 8 weeks after the incident a couple days later I received my results which all came back “normal”. Was so happy I felt back to my normal self again. Couple days later I go back to my stdcheck.com account just to reassure myself of the results when I noticed an in depth report of my results and to my surprise an index value of 2.89!!! With a negative supplemental it’s been about 2 weeks now and I’ve gone down a very much steep depression as to what this all means. I’m confused as to why I’d receive a “normal” test result for hsv 2 from stdcheck and labcorp with that kind of number with no follow up what so ever. Other then my right testicle feeling sore here and there which I’ve felt before any of this, I do not have any symptoms what so ever! but the day I seen that index value I started getting a weird tingling on the tip of my penis and any little itch will send me into a panic, before I seen that number I felt totally fine. Also is there anything in common with hsv 2 and a shriveled kind of texture to the head of the penis similar in when you take a hot shower and your fingers look the same way? Im a huge mess at the moment and I’d really appreciate any clarity you might advise about this hopefully being another false positive since being stuck to my phone all day long looking for answers has led me too you. Thank you so much and I hope to hear from you soon. Ps I have no idea of the other person’s status and probably won’t be able to find out 🙁
There is quite good agreement between a negative supplemental and a negative western blot, as a confirmatory test, but it isn’t perfect. The best test is the western blot but I think there is a very good chance that you are not infected.
Herpes does nothing to the texture of the skin of the penis, no.
If you decide that you want the western blot, I can help you with that or you can work with your own provider to get that done. It is done only at the University of Washington
Terri
