i recently got into a monogamous relationship with this woman 5 months ago. she recently went on birth control 3 weeks ago, said she got tested (blood) and she tested clean. she was not sure what exactly they tested for though. after a weekend together i noticed 3 small red bumps (slightly uncomfortable but did not hurt, no lesions or blisters) around the base of my penis/pelvic region which looked like ingrown hairs. the bumps were all underneath hair. went to the dr and she was very confident it was not an std, said it was a bacteria infection, possibly infected hair follicles. put me on antibiotics and they were completely gone within 5 days. i decided to get my blood tested at labcorp (i was on the antibiotics when i got tested). all 10 std tests came back negative except hsv 2 igg index was 1.42. i told the dr who saw me first and she was shocked, saying that what she saw did not look like hsv 2. she said i could get retested but the odds of a false positive is 3 in every 1,000. my partner is going to get tested asap now. before this i have never had any symptoms or outbreaks, not slept with many women (5 my entire life before her) and always used protection. before her my last sexual encounter was 6 months prior, before that was 1 year. would you recommend western blot? but i am already preparing for life as I am hsv 2 positive

At an index value of 1.42 the odds of this being a false positive are 85 out of 100. I don’t know where you doctor got her numbers, I got mine from the definitive article on this topic written by Dr. Rhoda Ashley Morrow, comparing western blot (the gold standard), Biokit and ELISA (the test you had done. I think the odds are most certainly in your favor. I would recommend a herpes western blot, done only at the University of Washington in the US. Our clinic can help arrange that test for you, to be drawn at a lab near you, if you like. Don’t prepare for a life with herpes 2 quite yet, OK?

You will need to contact the clinic to set this up. Remember that I do not know who you are nor do I want to.
