July 7th I went to a massage parlor, and received a handjob. She did not touch herself, and was completely clothed. Afterwards she gave me a semi wet/warm rag, and I cleaned myself up. Few days later I was at work, and strained myself lifting something.Woke up, and my testicle were swollen. About a week after I felt pain going down my left leg, and shooting pain only when sitting in my penis every now, and then. I went to an urgent care got tested for everything. This is after a week of the parlor. I got my results back, and it said my hsv1 igg was 2.66. I broke down, and felt very depressed. A few days later I spoke with a family member, and he told me to retest. I went to my primary doctor, and test negative. This was at 10 days. Igm combined .41, and hsv1 igg.4, and hsv2 less than .2. I have a girlfriend, and told her what was going on, and waited to have sex because I didn’t want to spread if I did have it. I retested again at a little over two weeks, and igm.40 , and hsv1.4 and hsv2 less than .2. I never had any thing show up on my penis, and no trouble urinating. Though I did feel pressure to urinate, and noticed a clear discharge from my penis a total of four times after about three weeks. Very little, and most of the time I had to literally put my finger inside of my penis to get it. I’ve had sex with my girlfriend after the two negative tests, and she hasn’t had any problems. At about three weeks I found out I have a Inguinal hernia, and saw a urologist. He said I have a groin injury, and to take it easy. The discharge stopped, but I still feel as though I feel tingling, or burning in my legs. This has been going on for over amonth now. I tested again at five weeks, and igm .36, and hsv1 igg .4 , and hsv2 less than. 2. Family says I should leave it alone, and see a hernia specialists. MY question is do you think it’s possible to get hsv1 on genitals from a handjob, or a rag? Does herpes prodrome last a month? Also can you have penis discharge without OB?

I absolutely do not think that you acquired anything, including HSV 1, from receiving a hand job from someone. That’s not how herpes is transmitted.

Thank you for the response. I’m going to retest one more time, and it would have been 7 weeks. If I don’t see any significant changes in igg number you think I can lay this to rest? My girlfriend is fine, and we’ve already had sex a few times. The symptoms I’ve mentioned earlier are pretty much gone although they lasted for over a month. Some people are telling me the things I’m feeling are from the inflamed inguinal hernia I have. Is there any insight you can provide on my testing numbers? Do these seem normal to you? Also I had read that discharge without lesions is probably not herpes? Is this correct? Any info would be great.

Also, if the discharge is from herpes would that make peeing painful, and that would mean there is a lesion inside of my urethra? Any response to these questions helps… please

Your lab test results simply indicate that you tested negative for HSV 1 and 2. Please do not ever use IgM testing in your situation.

I don’t think you either read or believe my comment that the experience that you had does not present a risk for herpes. I’m not at all clear why you would test again. If you are having a discharge from your penis, it is not due to anything that happened at this encounter, if the encounter was as you described it to be. But discharge from the penis is not normal and should be evaluated.

I understand, and have ready what you said. It’s just these symptoms I’m having. Lower back pain, and burning in my legs for over a month. I’m just not getting better. I’m really worried I got something from this experience. I. Questioning if she had it on her hand, or gave me a dirty rag. I just have not felt right. I did another test this is at 7 weeks. Igg hsv1 .4 and hsv2 .2. I’m just wondering if the test is just missing it. What do you think Terri? I try to believe it’s not this, and trust my results. It’s just My symptoms are not going away, and I’m really breaking down mentally… I don’t know what do do.. I just keep thinking to myself I got this from a freaking handjob…..

Also I’ve read many other subscribers in the same situation as me. Worrying about whitlow, and catching it from that. Does it ever turn out these guys were positive with herpes after there experience?

Also, why was there such a difference in my numbers? My first test was 2.66 after 7 days at the urgent care. Then at ten days it’s a .4?? The .4 has not changed even after taking a test at 7 weeks. I will eventually take the western blot with you. These burning sensations in my legs won’t go away

It is normal for IgG test results to vary, and they will vary even more if done at different labs that use different brands of test kits. I honestly don’t think that you have herpes from this experience, but if the western blot at 12 weeks would make you feel more reassured, there is no reason not to do it, right? Peace of mind is worth a lot, I think

Terri does this sound like herpes to you. I keep reading stories on reddit of people having shooting, and burning pains in their legs for weeks. Then boom an outbreak. I’ve been dealing with this for almost two weeks. It even goes down to my calves. I did request an evisit with you.

Also I feel the constant urge to pee along with the burning feeling in my lower back, and legs, and calves. Could this prodrome last this long without an outbreak? It seems like almost everyday I deal with these sensations, and it’s taking a toll on me mentally. I can’t stay off my phone reading stories. Even though I’m testing negative at seven weeks out, I am still concerned. I’m concerned of hsv1 genitally. Even though it was a handjob I’m reading it’s possible. The symptoms are driving me crazy. Almost everyday the burning pain, and feeling like I have to pee.

I don’t know where you are reading that hand jobs can result in HSV 1, but it is total BS. I think you are trusting the internet more than you should.
No, I don’t think is herpes.
If you are concerned about these symptoms, you need to see someone in person. They are not related to a new herpes case, so they can rule that out before you even start the appointment.

Ok so after I just used the bathroom peeing and pooping I had a dishcarge that looked like sperm. Omg omg wtf is going on. I’m in the er right now. It’s been almost seven weeks. I did have discharge once weeks ago, but it stopped. Now this discharge looks completely different. It looks like sperm, and happened after I pissed. It still doesn’t hurt to pee. Terri please respond.. I don’t know what to think of this. Does this sound like herpes. I just don’t know what to do.

Terri any advice on these symptoms. The er would not test me since I was just there, and they keep saying something would of popped up if it was herpes by now. I’m going on 8 weeks. Thinking about going to an urgent care, and seeing what a different lab says. I’m just worried because the first time I went to urgent care after a week from exposure I got a 2.66 which didn’t make sense, and then three days later at St. John hospital I got a .4. Then continued to get the same number through them. Do you think I should try a different urgent care to see the numbers? Is there a place you have in mind that seems to be accurate with lab results. I can’t go back to my primary at St. John hospital. They told me there was no reasoning to keep testing. Any other place you can think of? Also My symptoms I mentioned above? Any comment on that?

Terri any insight on these things? Had discharge almost five weeks after exposure from handjob, and now almost two months later I had a discharge after I pooped, and peed. This discharge looked like I straight up came. Literally been dealing with the urge to have to pee for almost two months? But everything keeps coming back negative

I think that this sounds absolutely nothing like herpes. If you are continuing to have discharge, you should see a urologist. As I told you, there is no risk of having someone masturbate your penis.

Hi Terry thank you for calling again. I had another question. The 2.66 igg hsv1 I received after 7 days from possible exposure. Can antibodies for this test show up after just seven days? Again after this I tested multiple times with different hospital, and got a .4. Is it possible the first one was false positive? I thought It took a while for igg antibodies to show.

Sorry I would have asked more, but I messed up our e visit. Do you think it’s safe to assume I don’t have herpes given my test results, and my symptoms?? It’s been 9 weeks, and no break outs. First test after once week from possible exposure was the 2.66, and then hospital three days later was .4. It has stayed that number since. Sorry I’m posting so much. I’m just curious if that first test was a false positive, and especially since it was only seven days after possible exposure.

False positives do happen.
