I went to the gyno because I was having issues with my IUD. I was bleeding during intercourse and could not feel my strings. The gyno asked about STD testing and removed the IUD. A pap was done and everything was normal. I have never had any issues or symptoms. My HSV-2 levels came back at 1.25. All other results were negative. My gyno said this could be a false positive and I am unsure what to do. I have never had a reason to believe I had any STI/STD. I also had BV which has been common since I’ve had my IUD and part of the reason I wanted it removed. Could this be a false positive?
It absolutely could be a false positive and like IS a false positive. You need the gold standard herpes western blot and you can work with your own GYN and the University of Washington to get this or I could work with you. Either way, it definitely needs to be confirmed or denied with a far better test.

Should I conduct more confirmatory testing with my GYN or would you recommend just working to get the western blot? I am in NYC and have read some forum questions that say it is somewhat difficult to do.
Your GYN cannot send it out of New York, unfortunately. Because I don’t practice in New York, I can order that for you as part of our research study and you can ship it yourself to UW. But of course, feel free to talk with your GYN about this and see if they have any other ideas. If the index value falls between 1.1 and 1.5, there is an 85% chance that this is a false positive. I’ll be happy to help is you wish.
