› Forums › Herpes Questions › Mutual Masturbation Transmission
My background: I’m a single 45 yr old male who at some point contacted hsv1 (found out a few years ago with std test). I have never experienced any outbreaks such a cold sores, etc
Concerning event: A few nights ago, I was with a woman and during foreplay/mutual masturbation, she informs me that she was given genital herpes by an ex boyfriend. She was not currently experiencing an outbreak but we stopped at that point. I did insert my fingers and then directly touch my penis. Also, I had recently removed a splinter from one of the fingers I used. We did not dry hump and my penis did not come into contact with her vagina other than when my hand immediately touched my penis after removing my fingers from her.
My questions
1. I understand that even though she wasn’t experiencing an active outbreak that she could still have been shedding the virus. How concerned should I be that I caught herpetic whitlow in the finger in which I had recently removed splinter?
2. Should I also be concerned that I have infected my genital area by immediately touching my penis?
3. If I did catch herpetic whitlow, does that mean that I am now positive for hsv2 and can spread?

If you don’t develop blisters on that area of your finger in 2-10 days after contact with her, I think you can put the worry aside

we don’t believe that hands present any real risk of transmission between people.

If it is only your finger, it would not be transmitted through sex.
