Hello Terri.
Last night I went out to a bar and ended up sleeping with a girl. We did not have sex because we didn’t have a condom but instead there was some mutual masturbation. I finger ed and rubed her vagina and then at some stage after that I masturbated myself. I’m now very concerned that I have put myself at risk of getting genital herpes. Can you tell me if this was a risk please
Mutual masturbation is really NOT a risk for acquiring genital herpes. Even if there was some vaginal secretions on your hand after you masturbated her, it is extremely unlikely that there would be live virus on your hand much less enough virus to infect yourself.
Have you ever had a herpes antibody test to know if you might have had herpes prior to this?
Terri
Yes I have been tested in the past and I came up positive for HSV 1 which was no surprise as I’ve had cold sores all my life. I also came up negative For HSV 2. This has been my first sexual encounter since my test. I came to your website to post as I’ve been reading many conflicting things on the internet. Can I ask why it would be extremely unlikely there would be any virus on my hands, less enough to infect myself If I had vaginal secretions on my hands?
I must say that I was very impressed with how quickly you replied to my question. Thankyou very much Teri
It is unlikely because the virus is not that hardy. It is very sensitive to lack of heat, to dryness, to loss of quantity. If a couple have sex 100 times per year (uninfected male, infected female) without antiviral therapy and without regular condom use only transmit to 4 males under those circumstances, how likely is it that you would acquire it with one episode of mutual masturbation?
