Hello! In May our now 18 month old toddler got some kind of virus from her daycare or possibly from her 5YO sister who is in preschool in the same building. The 5YO was feverish then fine within a couple days. The toddler had a high fever decreased appetite and was lethargic for many days and ended up with a red spot on her cheek maybe the size of a dime that spread and had a slapped face look so we were thinking 5th disease but she didn’t have a lacey rash on her arms/legs or any other spotting on her body. No swollen eyelids. A neighbor saw her face and said it looked like Roseola. Anyway, she recovered and went back to school after about a week but the spot on her cheek is still there. Sometimes it is more pronounced than others and reminds me of various pictures of herpes I saw when I was working at the clinic. It is rough and sandpapery and has a slightly bubbled look. I can send you a pic if that is permitted. I’m wondering if we should test her for HSV? Is there anything we need to be aware of regarding health risks or contagion? I do hope it will go away eventually, it can be quite pronounced. She is a happy and healthy child with no other concerns.
You should absolutely not test her for HSV. The IgG test in children has 50% false positive rate and I’m not sure what you would even do with an accurate positive.
You know my email – go ahead and send a photo. I would think if it was HSV, a week later, it would be scabbed over which would be quite a different look than what you are describing, I think
