      Hi

      Great site, lots of info.

I had been with my partner for 8 years. Neither of us ever had any symptoms or positive test results. The relationship ended 2 1/2 yrs ago.

For past two years I have been with another partner. No symptoms or positive test results here either.

Now my previous partner called and said she has tested positive for hsv2 via a blood test from her Dr. And she Took an at home test that was positive. I don’t know her exact numbers. She thinks I need a test. I don’t see the need.

      Thoughts on what to do?

      Thanks.

Also spoke with my primary care Dr about it, he said I didn’t need a test.

well, I would have to disagree that you need a test. If you were with someone for eight years and she hasn’t been with anyone else but you since then and she tests positive, then I would say, if you were my patient, get a test.

But I think also, it is important that she tell you the number associated with her positive test to see if it might need a confirmatory test due to a low positive number.

Thanks, she says she getting a retest next month, I’ll try to get her numbers and let you know. This is a very stressful situation. Thank you for your advice and the work you do.

One more thing, I know you recommend the WB test, but is there a test you recommend before getting that one? Thank you again.

The only tests that will be useful are IgG (vulnerable to false positives) and western blot.
Let me know the index values

      Hi

My ex got back to me. She took a second test and was positive. Doesn’t know her numbers. But has no symptoms.

I continue to have no symptoms. My Dr. Still Doesn’t seem to think I need a test. Do you have any additional Advice? Thanks again!

I think you do need a test. It would also be useful to know the index value of your current partner’s positive test for HSV 2.
