Hi Terri,
Im experiencing a lesion below the head of my penis for the second time now and am slightly confused as to what this may be.
Background…
Earlier April I rub the skin raw around the area noted earlier, below the head of my penis, through masterbation and developed a rash/ cut. About a weeks time later, had unprotected anal, vaginal and oral sex with a female (not sure of her history). About a weeks time after that, developed a single large lesion. I waited for another two weeks or so before seeing my primary. The lesion was still visable. I was told it didn’t look like a herpes and was sent for screening. Test was performed May 15th. HSV1 index came back at 0.06 and HSV2 came back at 0.04. The lesion healed itself, untreated, within two weeks of visiting my primary.
Fast foward to now…
Had unprotected vaginal and oral sex with a female (now sure of her history) and developed another, smaller lesion in the same area after about week, April 8th. Went back to my primary and was told now it does look like herpes. Was once again screened and the results came back negative for both HSV1 and HSV2, no index given in these results though? This test was performed Aug. 10th. All testing has been done via Thernos for ab.igg specific. My Dr put me on antiviral meds which I’m now taking, my blood was drawn prior to medicating.
Could this sore, that’s come back in the same spot, be something else? Is it possible I agitated this area through intercourse and now have a bacterial or fungal infection? The lesion is still present and starting to scab after two full days of medication. What are your thoughts? I can send pictures if needed.

I should also note I was screened for vzv which came back positive. It’s my understanding that this will show positive if one has had checked pox in their lifetime, which I have.
Also, I meant August 8th for the recurrence , not April 8th as stated earlier.

I don’t know what might be going on here but I doubt that it is HSV 2. The test should be reliable to reflect the input of the partner you had earlier. And I don’t think the VZV test is really useful in this situation.
It would be very important if you get a similar lesion again that you get in to be seen right away to get a PCR swab of the lesion.

The lesion is still present and doesn’t appear to be decreasing in size. Should I go ahead and have the swab done now and if so can you recommend a place that performs this? Will the antiviral meds cause any issues with the results?

It seems I was given two separate blood tests, what are the differences. The ones performed in may were
LOINC: 7911-1
LOINC: 7908-7The tests from August were
LOINC: 16954-0
LOINC: 43111-4 -

I am not familiar with the testing, when listed in the way. but you said earlier that the testing was IgG antibody so that is the correct test to be done.
A test done in August would be reflective of any lesions that was present for the first time in April. Enough time has passed for an accurate test result.
