Hi!I’ve been reading a lot of questions but it’d be better to ask specifically. I’ve had oral hsv1 since I was a baby or toddler,I’m 21 years old.A good amount of time. I have some questions/scenarios that are keeping me up at night and would appreciate your help.
1.My last outbreak was a little over year ago ,currently no outbreak, but I’ve been having tingling on my lips(no specific spot)for a WHILE which makes me 2nd guess if it’s a cold sore coming or something else, by a while I mean some months on and off, I was feeling my nerves all over my body at some point, doctor said he didn’t think it was bc my HSV(from running supposedly)so when my lips started tingling, first thing I think is cold sore, but then none form. I usually never get that tingling for that long when I get a cold sore anyways. Heat/sun trigger mine and I usually get it pretty quick like an hour.Tingling is like a tickle for a second.I’ve been taking lysine for 6 months now daily so my question is do you think that can be a reason? Before I took them I never had this problem.also use abreva for tingling
2.with that being said, the first scenario, since I have no cold sore just that tingling, that might not be cold sore related but let’s just say it is,I had a prison visit(4hrs)with my husband,we had 2 PECK kisses, pretty sure no saliva, and let’s say that tingling is from hsv. What are the chances?I read you talk about that, not likely to pass virus especially no sore present, right?I kept touching my lips, picked dead skin off, then we kept holding hands, he was also kissing my hands, could I be shedding bc of the tingling, spread the virus to his hands/mouth by holding hands or him kissing my hands/fingers,peck kisses?
3.Another scenario. A friend asks to use some Vaseline,I have a little jar, she has no visible sores, doesn’t double dip her finger, I don’t either,if she were to touch her lips right before and have a virus, hypothetically speaking, hsv2, what are the chances? Also days have passed

Another question about 2. What are the chances during those peck kisses, I had a little healing tear/cut from chapped lips? I’ve heard people say they get the virus bc their partner had a cut from shaving so was wondering if it was the same?
Also, quick question, since my triggers are sun/heat, say I go outside, start feeling it forming hours from being outside, was i contagious before it was triggered? How does that work?

Thank you in advance. Your answers should help me sleep at night! (If I have nothing to worry about..)

Update: 3 days later from stopping lysine, no tingling, no cold sore, could it be a coincidence? Is lysine as a preventative from getting an outbreak a myth?

UPDATE a week later no/less tingling, no cold sore (thank God), no sign of a cold sore coming in, still off of lysine supplements, what also makes me think the tingling isn’t viral shedding, when I did feel the tingle in the past months, several times I would apply abreva, and abreva for me prevents a cold sore from forming! Abreva never let me down. Also I’ve read you say something about tingling isn’t as recurrent for that long too. My nerves have calmed down a lot just waiting for your response to make sure there’s nothing to worry about!

A little more information to help you answer: been with my husband almost 3 years, had one outbreak since I met him, no kissing/oral during, waited until completely healed skin, that was a year ago, they do all testing, including blood test, at prison, also diagnose stds there/medication. Which is why I’m careful because I would like to never give him this virus. I just hope I shed the virus less, before my husband, I was in another relationship for a year, they never had any cold sores that I’m aware of or genital. So it kinda makes me feel like I do shed less since I’ve had it for so long. And hopefully never spread it. Also, I said I would get a tingling on my lips, I did feel my chin/lips twitch too, and no specific area would tingle on my lips it would take turns every other hour almost for about 3-4 months, not in a row on and off, it would miss a day or two then i would feel it again, never itches either. But I never experienced that before I started taking lysine… also it is confirmed hsv1

It isn’t possible to know what the tingling is about without doing a swab test of the lips when you have the tingling. But from the way you describe it, it’s pretty constant.
Also, the contact you had with your husband is not at all a risk for transmission
I also doubt very seriously that he is being tested for herpes in prison. That would be extremely unusual as the CDC doesn’t recommend testing unless someone has concerning symptoms.
It would be good to know more conclusively if he has HSV 1 by doing an antibody test at some point. About half the population has this so he may well be infected and not know it.
The vaseline scenario is also not a risk for transmission
