Terri,
In your last response to me on 5/12, you asked this question:
There is one other possibility – do you think your husband could be taken antiviral therapy without you knowing it? That would prevent him from making antibody for a long time.
At the time I read it my mind went to true herpes antiviral therapy, like acyclovir (Zovirax), famciclovir (Famvir), and valacyclovir (Valtrex), and my thoughts were no, I do not feel he would have been taking any of these as I truly feel, just like myself and by his reaction to this, my husband really didn’t know about Herpes, much less preventative measures, until this whole thing happened; unless I am totally reading him wrong.
However, given I think about this everyday, something popped into my head so I had to follow up on it. Is it possible that a medication he is taking is acting like an antiviral therapy, such as prescription heart burn medication or prescription high blood pressure medication or fish oil? My husband is on all of these. The prescription heart burn medication for years and the high blood pressure and fish oil more recent, like over the past year.
I am interested to know your thoughts. As you can see, I am still very much unsettled on this.
Thanks much.
No, these medicines are not effective antivirals and would have no impact on antibody testing.
Terri
