Hello Terri, where do I begin?
29 yr old male (MSM) last receptive Anal encounter was 11 months ago. Everything since then has been oral sex, receptive vs insertive.
last yr, about 5 days after receptive anal last yr I noticed quite a bit of stomach aches, mucus when I wiped, and tenesmus. This all resided, resolved, and repeated in a series of 3 weeks. I got tested through primary care for PREP for “Descovy” and I believe the extended STD Panel was an IGM or IGG HSV test which was NEG.
5 months later I used an at home testing kit “STD RAPID KITS FOR HSV2” from singapore just for peace of mind which came back neg for hsv2 IGG.
6 months later I did at home testing with “MYLABBOX” which uses Molecular Diagnostic Labs from Vancover WASHINGSTON. methodology: Elisa Herpeselect IGG. via”dried blood spot card” result was – for hsv2
7 months later decided to undergo a colonscopy & blood IBD PANEL, due to tummy aches and mucus when I wiped. The colonoscopy came back normal. “NO RECTAL OR ANAL BIOPSY WAS TAKEN =(” just colon, however the blood test came back accelerated levels of ACLA antibody=suggestive of Crohns disease =/
9 months later, decided to do “mylabbox”again but for both HIV & HSV2 6 weeks past exposure “oral sex” via “MYLABBOX” both negative.
11 months later, decided to screen for HSV 1 as well as HSV2, Also discreet & at home, since i discovered hsv1 can infect ano-genital area. Discreetly done via “LETSGETCHECKED.com” which uses northwell health laboratories NY. Methodology: CLIA ( clia chemiluminescence immunoassay hsv1/2 )
RESULTS WERE:
HSV1: 0.02
HSV2: 0.10BOTH ON A SCALE OF <0.90 – & <1.10 +
Sorry for being TMI/or too gross 🙁
Questions
1. Should I believe hsv1&2 Elisa/ clia TESTS? at almost 12 months past anal exposure?
2. Is there a difference between ELISA Herpeselect/ bioflash clia?
3. I sometimes have mucus/itching when i wipe, Should i assume “Perianal Crohns Disease” if the IBD panel came back + for 1 screening test?
4. Should i do WB -

I think you can be 92% certain you don’t have HSV 2 but only 70% certain you don’t have HSV 1.
2. Is there a difference between ELISA Herpeselect/ bioflash clia?CLIA is just the name of the certifying organization for lab testing, not a test- perhaps the bioflash is the name of the test? I am unfamiliar with this test.
3. I sometimes have mucus/itching when i wipe, Should i assume “Perianal Crohns Disease” if the IBD panel came back + for 1 screening test?
I honestly don’t know the answer to this question.
4. Should i do WB
I would say to do it only if you are not satisfied with the test sensitivities that I listed above. If you do do the blot and are HSV 1 positive, you cannot know if your infection is oral or genital if you have never had a cold sore on your lip or in your nose.

clia = chemiluminescence immunoassay (CLIA) for hsv1&2: Though im not sure if it was Bioflash or LIAISON machine, or another CLIA machine for the test.
The CLIA IGG was done through “letsgetchecked”, they use blood drops in a yellow top tube.
The ELISA IGG was done with mylabbox. They use Dried Blood Spot Cards
The weird thing is , after getting a “negative results” the itching/mucus seems to be non-existent. I’m wondering if its IBS related from paranoia or a side effect from “PREP” but my primary care doc seems to not believe it’s PREP related. I also test negative for all other STI’s to date.
I’ve also never had blisters or hemorrhaging anus.
A nurse I spoke with from letsgetchecked informed me that a negative result @ 12 Weeks is conclusive & retesting is not necessary.
I’m going to discuss recent results with my primary care, and if she thinks i should reflex to Western Blot.
If the idea is on the table, i’ll consult with you.
Thanks for your voice/help 🙂

Just thought I’d update everyone with results of my western blot from the University of Washington
* Nearly a year & 1/2 past exposure.
2 negative HSV 2 ELISA IGG TEST’s from MYLABBOX & PRIVATEiDNA;
& 1 negative HSV1&2 CLIA “Chemiluminescence Immunoassay test” from letsgetchecked.com* With IGG VALUES OF 0.02 FOR HSV1 & 0.10 FOR HSV2
* My WB results read: negative for HSV1 & negative for HSV2!!! now i can truly move forward with my life. Terri is the amazing and I highly recommend this confirmatory test =)

thank you so much for updating everyone – I think it’s good for people to see that there is a confirmatory test and that it can be helpful in sorting out one’s true herpes status.
