Hi Terri
I’m a 21 y/o female. I have had GHSV1 for about 3 years now. The first OB was extremely painful(many many sores).I’ve never had anything that severe since. Just irritation down there that resolves itself in days.
Fast forward to this year:
5/1/18-I had unprotected sex (vaginal, oral) with a man that told me he was HSV2 positive a week after we had sex. Needless to say I was devastated
He told me that he has had it for about 2 1/2 years and has never had an outbreak, so he’s never taken any medication.
About 5 days after we had sex my symptoms started and were as follows:
-body aches (legs, feet, arms, shoulders)
– swollen groin lymph node (which I wasn’t too alarmed about since I get them often, especially when I have rough sex which I had been having with another man at the time)
-a lot of itching in my vaginal area
-watery white discharge
-one tiny red bump in my vagina, right next to the vaginal opening (not painful at all, never get or opened, and went away in like 2 days, looked nothing like the sores that I had with GHSV1I went to the doctor while experiencing these symptoms. My exam revealed a red rash inside my vagina, which was cultured and came back negative for herpes. My blood tests came back negative as well, (for type2). I was diagnosed with a severe yeast infection and a bacterial infection. I took the medicines prescribed and my symptoms were gone within days.
I was tested again (iGg exactly 4 weeks after exposure) and it came back negative again (not sure the value index, but definitely less than .90 which is what i was told by doctor)
6/14/2018 I’m conflicted and scared because the past week and a half I’ve been having constant body aches all over and am scared. (No other symptoms)
1) Does HSV2 produce constant prolonged body aches with no outbreak or other symptoms?
2) Could my established GHSV1 status be delaying possible HSV2 antibodies?
3) How possible is it that I received a false negative, considering my story? -

1) Does HSV2 produce constant prolonged body aches with no outbreak or other symptoms?
No
2) Could my established GHSV1 status be delaying possible HSV2 antibodies?
It could delay it a little yes. Your test at 4 weeks cannot be counted upon but if you are still negative at 6 weeks out, there is a 70% chance it will be negative at a final 12 week draw
3) How possible is it that I received a false negative, considering my story?
It is possible, certainly, but a single encounter is also unlikely to result in infection. It’s too early to know about this for certain.

Not sure how follow ups work, lmk if I need to pay to get answers from this post.
1) How possible is it that my constant body aches are a result of postherpetic neuralgia caused by HSV2?
These body aches are what’s most alarming because I can’t recall a time in my life where I noticed them this much. It could be from me paying too much attention to every sensation I get, but considering my exposure to HSV 2 almost two months ago (7 weeks to date), I feel like that is the only explanation.
However, I’ve been reading that with hsv2, pains and aches are normally in the legs and butt. Most of my uncomfortable pains are in my arms, shoulders, some in the neck and only minor tingling or pain in the lower body (tingling in foot, sometimes leg and not really painful, so not noticeable unless I overthink it, but definitely present.)
Also, my vagina has been feeling achy since my period started this month. Not the type of pain where is hurts if it’s touched or pressed, it’s kind of just there (hope that makes sense)
2) Does this particular symptom occur with hsv2?
I haven’t been able to ge this out of my head and every sensation is making me terrified. I also got a few bad headaches last week. It was really hot out, so I thought that maybe it could be from the heat, but I understand that headaches could be a symptom. In addition, last week for maybe a day the lymph node under my armpit started to hurt.
3) do these sound like symptoms?
** keep in mind all I have been thoroughly checking my genitals throughout this entire ordeal and have had no lesions or sores. Also no burning at all , just minor but noticeable tingling and itchiness in the vagina with nothing to show for it.

Might also add that it’s not only the pains that are alarming, it’s the prolonging of them. Haven’t gone a full day without some sort of pain for a few weeks.

Constant body aches are not related to HSV 2. IF people get the neuralgia, it is usually down the back of one leg not all over as you describe
I think you are overreacting, which is pretty normal after finding this information out after the fact.
I would encourage you to get an antibody test for HSV 2 at 12 weeks from the exposure and if negative, put it behind you.
