Hi Terri!
Just a couple of questions. I am HSV-1 oral and HSV-2 genital (Female, 34) I’ve had oral cold sores since I was a kid and rarely rarely get presenting lesions — maybe 1 every 2 years or so. I was diagnosed by presenting lesion in 2016 for hsv-2. I get OBs probably 3-4 times a year and my mind *loves* to convince me every itch or twinge I have is an OB, so that’s fun.
I’m also on suppressive meds, though I’m not perfect with taking them. My new boyfriend and I are using condoms for vaginal intercourse but not when he receives oral from me. I haven’t received oral from him yet. He’s pretty cool with the situation though I’m sure he’d love to ditch the condoms entirely.
What can I tell him about risk, taking in that I am take pretty darn regular suppressives, have had genitalhsv2 for 7 years and ohsv1 for like 30? I’ve communicated it’s never going to be 0 percent but I’d like to share a little more.
Second semi related question — I had read that cleaning surrounding areas with hibiclens might have positive virus-killing effects (NEVER inside though). Any thoughts?
I am not aware of any research on hibiclens for this purpose.
The general statistic first is that about 50% of people ages 14-49 have HSV 1. Has been tested to know that he is not infected with HSV 1?
The transmission rate from women to men, having sex about twice per week, no outbreaks present, no condoms, no meds, is about 4% per year. Meds reduce it to 2%, condoms to about 1%.
Does that help?
Terri
