I have recently slept with a woman who is HSV2 positive, one time. This was around 13-14 days ago. She has had it for 9 or 10 years, no antivirals and no condom. 8 days ago I got a red “rash” below the head of my penis. This redness had no physical sensations of irritation. It did have some flaking and peeling if I would rub or touch it. Now there is what appears to be a very small open sore area. I also have had sex and masturbated since, in which I don’t use lubrication to masturbate.
I slept with this woman unprotected as I believed I had HSV2 myself. Though I did just get back a test 3 days ago, and I am HSV2 negative as of then. I have had penis “symptoms” on the head of my penis for months that most likely resembled herpes. It could be Balanitis, candida, or perhaps contact dermatitis. Both of these issues appear to have been happening right after I’ve been on antibiotics for a few weeks (6 months ago I was on antibiotics for a UTi, and now I just got off antibiotics for 3 weeks for a finger infection). Though for the past few months my issues were limited only to the head of the penis, now this is below the head. I know my risk level is low but it is still a risk. At 2 weeks post potential exposure , should I be experiencing more issues now? Or would fluid blisters or lesions have popped up right after my redness appeared? I have had penis redness for these 8 days and it isn’t gone. What would you suggest I do now in terms of going to doctor or resting my mind? I have been hyper aware now and am trying to calm myself down as I know mental anxiety can take over many times in situations like this.

Since you are describing a small sore on your penis I would strongly suggest that you go in and have it evaluated and swab tested for herpes.

Thank you. I saw my doctor today and said that it definitely did not look like herpes and could be friction burn. Said he could not swab it, when I said lesion I meant more loosely that it just looked like very very minor open skin. Perhaps from usage, masturbation or sex, if friction is the case.
Could you answer my questions, please:
Does herpes cause flaking of the skin at all? (I noticed flaking about a week ago when the redness began, I could rub my finger on the redness and skin would come off).
At 2 weeks post potential exposure , should I be experiencing more issues now?
How rapid do red spots turn into actual blisters, is it quickly?
Or would fluid blisters or lesions have popped up right after my redness appeared?
It feels like I am having some burning on the left side of my penis, right side is primarily affected with the redness but I also have 2 little red spots right under the penis head. Is burning a main symptom of primary infection and is it constant, or does it generally happen after a blister is formed and popped? -

Today Update: I went to STD Clinic close by just to get a 2nd opinion.
I was told that what I had looked nothing like herpetic at all. And the NP said she would bet her paycheck on it, but did notice I did have a little urine discharge left over. Though I did just test negative for gono/chlamid on Monday.
I told her I read having hsv1 (which I’ve had for years – orally) would lessen HSV2 symptoms, she said she hasn’t heard of that.
Also checked my lymph nodes in my groin and said they were not enlarged whatsoever and they usually are huge in herpetic outbreak.
Would the fact that I already have OHSV1 lessen my physical appearances if I contracted GHSV2?Would it also cause lymph nodes to not swell?
Does GHSV2 cause any urine drip in men (if there are no lesions inside urethra)? She mentioned to see urologists perhaps.- This reply was modified 5 years, 3 months ago by WilliamB.

No, but the scab could flake off, I suppose, you might call it that.

Perhaps

Usually within a day or two

Absolutely. I don’t know what literature this nurse is not reading about herpes, but this is a well known fact. Prior infection with HSV 1 most often lessens the severity of any HSV 2 acquisition and may in fact cause the new infection to be asymptomatic

No.

Pretty soon afterwards, yes

Burning with herpes is usually associated with lesionsTerri

Sorry, we don’t view pictures on this website. Too close to practicing medicine over the internet.
