Hi Terri!
Thank you so much for your work. You are such a blessing. I’m a F.. I get tested before and after each partner with the HSV1 & 2 igg test included. I usually have partners tested as well. Last 2 partners showed positive for HSV1 and confirmed they get cold sores. I discussed with my doctor before the first partner with confirmed HSV1 and didn’t seem to be a cause for concern. Second partner, after oral sex twice and unprotected intercourse once I had an initial outbreak and have confirmed GHSV1. I’m almost 2 months post infection. First partner with confirmed OHSV1 is back in the picture, my questions are:
1) am I a risk to a partner confirmed with OSHV1?
2) do I need to wait a certain amount of time post exposure to have sex with a OHSV1 positive partner?
3) is it necessary to disclose to a confirmed OHSV1 positive partner?
4) At this stage, would I be of great risk for genital spread to a negative HSV1 partner or would genital to oral infection be the main concern?
Thank you!
1) am I a risk to a partner confirmed with OSHV1?
We believe that it would be extremely unusual for someone with oral HSV one to subsequently acquire genital HSV 1
2) do I need to wait a certain amount of time post exposure to have sex with a OHSV1 positive partner?
no
3) is it necessary to disclose to a confirmed OHSV1 positive partner?
I don’t believe that it is.
4) At this stage, would I be of great risk for genital spread to a negative HSV1 partner or would genital to oral infection be the main concern?
Since you have a new infection, you will be shedding virus on about 15 out of 100 days until you’ve been infected for about six months at which point you will be shedding about half of that. We don’t have data on whether the risk is greater for someone you are having intercourse with who is not positive for HSV one or to someone who gives you oral sex who is not infected with HSV one.
Terri
