Hi, I am female tested 20 days after unprotected possible exposure with male. Not sure if other person has or not. He did have a sore on his hand that I’m freaking out about, said was a cut that hasn’t healed. I felt I had a yeast infection at about 18 days, took monistat and better. No outbreaks, no other symptoms but maybe slight yeast symptoms, but I think it may be in my head just worrying. My results:

      163033 HSV-2 Type Spec Ab, IgG w/Rflx
      HSV 2 IgG, Type Spec
      Above High Normal 4.36
      Equivocal

HSV-2 IgG Supplemental Test Abnormal Positive

HSV 1 IgG, Type Spec <0.91
      Equivocal

I received message to retest for HSV-2 because may be false positive. Not HSV 1.

My previous partner of 10 years frequently would get cold sores on his outer lip. No genital. We never thought it could be hsv, never tested. Very frequently had oral sex, but never when he had a sore.

I have gotten a pimple or two over the years & yeast infections. I had HPV with leep 20 years ago never any sores. I currently have adenomyosis possible endometriosis.

Now I’m accepting that I probably have HSV 2, I am 24 days after exposure, no sores or pimples.

Would the ABNORMAL Positive Supplemental test indicate that I probably had hsv2 asymptomatic prior to this recent interaction? I’m trying to figure out if it’s from long ago or recently.

As for the hsv1 I had some cracked lips but went away. Should I retest for that?

Thank you so much for your time. I can’t eat or sleep & am scheduled for hysterectomy next week. I’m a mess!

I really appreciate all the work you are doing to help people. Thank you!

Forgot to mention test was done through Labcorp. Still no symptoms. What felt like yeast is gone. Feel fine now. No pimples, sores or anything like that.

I have many false positives on the supplemental test from LabCorp (positive supplemental, negative western blot). However, your 4.36 is a little higher than most false positives, but I’ve definitely seen false positives in this range. It is not equivocal, it is positive. And your HSV 1 is not equivocal, it is negative.

Your partners cold sores were more likely HSV 1.

If you were my patient, I would order the western blot for confirmation of this index value.

I still have not had symptoms. Do you think this may mean I’ve always had it? Maybe just asymptomatic? Thank you for your response:)

You either have had it a while, are infected but asymptomatic, or you don’t have it at all.
