Hello Terri.
In 2019, I tested positive for HSV1 around 30. March 2022, I tested positive for HSV1 at 6.7 and HSV2 at 2.0. I took a PCR blood test for both HSV1 & 2 which came out negative and another IGG test in September 2022 which was still positive for HSV1, but not HSV2. Can you please help me figure this out? Thank you.
ALSO, I FORGOT TO MAKE YOU AWARE, I NEVER EXPERIENCED AN ORAL OUTBREAK OR GENITAL OUTBREAK THAT I AM AWARE OF. I HAVE HAD INGROWN HAIRS AND POSSIBLE BOILS. BUT THE WAY OUTBREAKS ARE EXPLAINED, NEVER EXPERIENCED CLUSTER OF BUMPS, CRUSING, ETC. WHEN I WAS FIRST DIAGNOSED WITH HSV2 IN MARCH, I FEEL LIKE I STARTED FEELING A WEIRD SENSATION DOWN THERE SOMETIMES, BUT NOT SURE IF THIS WAS MY ANXIETY.
A PCR from blood should never be done – whoever ordered that was very confused about when to do PCR – only from swabs, never blood for adults. The only time it is appropriate is to determine if a baby has a disseminated infection. Your first low positive for HSV 2 could have been a false positive and the second test was the correct one. Without a Western blot we can’t really be certain about that.

Thank you so much for that information, Terri. However, is it common for an IGG test to be positive and then negative a few months down the line? I spoke with my obgyn who informed me that she has never seen that before.
Also, do you recommend that the Western Blot is needed?
I have seen that many times, actually. And most often when that happens, the western blot is negative. I’m not promising anything, but if someone has a new infection, normally the numbers would go up, not down into the negative range. If you want more certainty, you can do the blot
