hello Terri I just recent got tested for std everything came back negative but the HSV1 I got a high 58 on the Igg test. Two weeks ago me and a partner kissed, shared some drinks I kissed all over her body but not the genital area or anything but I did suck around her nipples. I don’t seem to recall ever having any cold sores or symptoms anywhere. I had chlamydia once but that was cured. I’m curious because of the high number this shouldn’t result in a false positive. My question for you is do I have herpes hsv1 due to the high 58? Should I wait a couple of months to retest again or I shouldn’t bother because I definitely have it? I’ve also heard of the western blot but I don’t think I need it or do I? what should I do next the doctors wouldn’t give me any meds until I have a breakout, what if I don’t have any breaks then what?

Yes you do have HSV 1 as does half the US Population between 14 and 49. There is no need to retest. This high score means you have well established infection and you do not need the western blot. Your infection could be oral or genital. Without an outbreak in either location, you cannot know that. If you have received oral sex in your lifetime, the infection could be genital. It is rarely transmitted via intercourse. If you are having sexual contact with someone who is not HSV 1 positive, you should consider suppressive therapy which apparently means you might want to consider a new doc OR review your history of oral and genital skin changes – are you sure you don’t have outbreaks, perhaps in your nose?

Thanks taking the time out and having this website for answering questions this is really helpful to answer Yeah I just started getting nose bleeds and sometimes my left nostril feels hot. Is that considered my outbreaks? Since I just started feeling this does it means I recently got the hsv-1? What does this means for my sex life moving forward? Can I have kids? When do I know it’s safe to kiss another girl since I don’t see my outbreaks? Can I share utensils with my family? I haven’t had any unprotected sex since my last encounter with chylmadia … so I must’ve gotten it from kissing that last girl two weeks ago only kissing and nipple sucking and shared drinks is that possible? Should I see a pcp to take medication? How cautious should I be around my love ones? The doc said it wasn’t anything serious to worry about but I’m worried like everyone else on here one kiss can ruined your life.

I have no idea if your hot nostril is an outbreak of HSV 1. If you want to know, you could have it swab tested for HSV. Herpes is not associated with bleeding.
You did not recently acquire HSV 1 – your value is very high indicating long standing infection.
Without known infection in either the oral or genital area, I cannot say what it means for your sex life but of course you an have kids and share utensils with your family and share drinks. I’m not sure that one kiss has “ruined your life” when in fact you’ve certainly had this for a long time, but you are infected either orally or genitally. If you get a lesion in either location, have it swab tested right away so you can know if your infection is oral or genital.

That’s crazy now that I think about it I have experienced some pimple like symptoms around my genital area sometimes mainly behind the testies and even around my anus area but I always thought it was due to improper hygiene due to huge amount of sweet etc… my main concern is about my future life and partners I obviously have to talk about it. But Just to be clear how is this virus transmitted? Is it through intercourse? Skin to skin? Oral to genital? I just wanna live a normal life and have kids and not have to worry about passing it on to my potential wife or kids or even my love one immediate family. How can I also know if this is hsv-1 or 2 my score I should earlier was for the hsv1 58 and hsv2 >0.9 but the sheet said it doesn’t distinguish between test which is pretty disappointing. Also with shedding is that actual skin shedding because I sometimes notice my back have really dry dead skin but that can also just be dry skin is shedding around the area of infection ? Assuming it’s genital can it be transmitted through seamen?

Genital herpes is transmitted through sexual contact requiring skin to skin or mouth to genital contact. We cannot know if the symptoms that you are describing that occur in your genital area our herpes or not without a swab test of the area. I don’t know what you mean about the test not distinguishing between types because you have clearly written down results for two different types. Perhaps you mean that the tests cannot distinguish the location of the infection which is absolutely correct. Shedding does not happen with any symptoms like dry skin and it is not normally transmitted through semen either. The only way to know for certain if your infection is oral or genital is to have a lesion swab tested and typed.
