Hi there,
I’ve been dating my boyfriend for four months and we found out our status before becoming sexually active. He was HSV 2 positive. I was not. We’ve been careful…using condoms, although he had not started Valtrex. Well recently, we slipped and did not use a condom. He reasoned at the time that he had no physical symptoms, etc….and my brain left the building. :/
Well 7 days after this encounter I started having aches all over…. Pain in left buttock, hip, thigh, shin, neck, arms, feet, groin — all on ONE side of my body. Even the joints in my hand were hurting. Not all at once. At various times of the day, different parts hurt. Again, mainly contained to the left side. This has been going on for four days now. I’m not having any sores, no itching and I am urinating fine.
Does this sound like Herpes? Why no sores? and How long will this aching last if it is Herpes? The only other pre existing medical condition I have is a kidney issue — partial blockage in my ureter but it’s never caused issues like this.
Also does a person who is HSV 1 positive have any protection from 2?
This has me thinking about my future and prospects for relationships. How do women with HSV 2 status fare? How do men typically react?
Thank you for this service!
That is a presentation of herpes I have not seen, symptoms generalized to one side of the body. I would advise you to keep an eye out for any genital abnormalities.
Have you been tested to determine your HSV 2 status?
A person who has HSV 1 is not generally protected against HSV 2, no. A person who has genital HSV 1 may have a slightly lower risk of acquiring HSV 2, but that has not been completely sorted out.
I would say that the response to a woman infected with HSV 2 on the dating scene varies. A lot depends upon how the woman herself has adjusted to having HSV 2 If she is very upset by having herpes and that message comes across to a potential partner, I think things don’t go quite as well.
Your partner really should take daily therapy to reduce the risk of infecting you. It can be a cheap, easy and safe medicine to take with big benefits in terms of transmission.
