I was getting a regular STD screen. On my screen, I came up positive for HSV 1 & 2.
Result of my labs:
Hsv 1 IgG:39.60
HSv2 IgG: 1.19
I have known I had HSV 1 since I was a child because I have gotten maybe 3 cold sores in the past 23 years and both my parents have cold sores. The HSV took me by surprise. I have never had any symptoms of genital herpes. I have only ever had protected sex with two partners, and I have had the same partner for the past 9 months. I have been reading a lot of false positives, and the fact that I have had no new partners, engage in very low-risk behavior and only have a low positive and have no symptoms of Herpes, makes me concerned that this may be a false positive. My primary care doctor said that there is only a 15% chance that this is a false positive, but she was basing that off the 20 people who have requested confirmation tests. I already got the Western Blot done and ordered due to my anxiety and need for a real result, but I am so anxious. I was wondering what my odds are of actually having HSV 2.
Hi! My results came back but I am slightly confused. My western Blot came back negative for both HSV 1 and 2. Since my HSV Igg is so high and I have gotten what I thought were 3 cold sores in the past this makes me a bit confused.
Okay, My doctor ordered a PCR test instead of a western blot and now I am just over all frustrated.
So wait – no blot but a negative blood PCR? That’s not right. Did you give your doctor the kit to use from the University of Washington? I would recommend that you order the kit again and ask for a repeat draw and send the blood back yourself this time.
