Hello Terri, thank you for reading my message.
I contracted OHSV-1 in September 2021, and had a pretty bad initial facial outbreak. Fast forward to January 2022, I went to get an IGG test, and it came back positive with a value of 6 for HSV-1. Around that time, I had a second outbreak, which was smaller and more localized on one side of my face.
Since the second outbreak, I have had constant prodromal symptoms on my face, every single day. It resembles a burning sensation, sometimes in the area of my face where I received my second OB, and sometimes on other parts of my face. I haven’t had a third outbreak yet, and have been taking l-lysine daily because I read that it could help prevent OBs.
My questions to you are:
is this constant nervy-prodromal feeling normal for those who recently contracted OHSV-1?
I was prescribed Valtrex for use when I feel an OB coming on, but due to this constant prodromal feeling, it’s like I feel that there is always an OB coming on. Do you think that asking my doctor for a daily suppressive dose would be prudent, and would help lessen this prodromal feeling?
I am quite active in the dating scene, am 30 and want to meet someone…but now afraid of even kissing someone due to this constant prodromal tingling. Are there statistics out there that show the percentage chance that I can infect someone with OHSV-1 even if there is no visible outbreak?
Finally, do these prodromal sensations get better over time?
Thank you Terri. I look forward to your response.
I think you should consider daily suppression, for sure. If all these symptoms are truly prodrome, the antiviral medicine should clear them up or reduce or them greatly and will also reduce the risk of transmission to a new partner through either kissing or giving oral sex to someone.
We don’t have any statistics about oral transmission actually. sorry about that.
Terri
