Hello!
-last questionable encounter was almost 2 years ago
-recently had a small tear/sore, minimal pain, itchy, but no fluid
-IgG was negative
-in the last two years, I have had twin babies, with 3 month nicu stay, and previous encounter’s now girlfriend went through radiation for early cancer detection. None of us have had any symptoms, including the father of my children. Just a lot of stress without an outbreak by any of us!
My question is can I trust the IgG test and move on? What are the chances of my body not making antibodies in the past two years?
Do you know if the swab test that was done was a culture or PCR?
both HSV 1 and HSV 2 can cause genital sores so when you ask if you can trust the IgG, I’m not clear if you were negative for both?
Terri
Sorry for the confusion.
I had nothing to swab by the time I went in, so that’s why we did blood test.
Negative IgG for both strains, but more curious on the chance that I haven’t had enough time to produce antibodies after this amount of time? Or if I can trust it. It was a very low negative.
How long does a typical outbreak last? Initial and reoccurrence?
If your last questionable encounter was two years ago, you can likely remove HSV 2 from your list of worries.
A typical herpes outbreak lasts 2-3 weeks initially and about a week for recurrences.
