Terri,
According to my mother I was diagnosed with HSV1 as a baby…she kissed my ear and I was hospitalized and given an IV of antivirals. The only outbreak I can remember is back in 2001 which presented right in front of my earlobe. Does this mean I can shed the virus from my mouth during oral sex?
I had a positive HSV1 IgG test result from a STD test in the past.
So in your case, HSV 1 is not an STD. But you probably know that already
Yes, if you were infected in your face, you are very likely to have the virus present on the trigeminal nerve which supplies the mouth but that is not certain as I don’t exactly where on the ear you were infected. So yes, it is possible thatyou could shed the virus orally.
It also doesn’t really make total sense that you got infected on your earlobe from a kiss because the skin of the earlobe is pretty thick. Is she sure that’s where you initially got infected?
Terri
Yes I knew it wasn’t considered a STD. I was just curious of the risk of infection if I perform oral sex on someone because I didn’t know where it was shedding from exactly.
My OB was actually on the right side of my face in front of my ear…not on the actual ear lobe.
