› Forums › Herpes Questions › Oral sex when both partners have HSV2
I contracted HSV2 genitally about 5 months ago. I am seeing a new partner who also has genital HSV2.
If he and I perform oral sex on each other, what are the chances of us contracting HSV2 orally?
I am very concerned about this because I have children and I am afraid I will contract the oral version of HSV2 and unknowingly pass it to my kids when I kiss them, since there’s no way to test specifically for oral HSV2.
Once you have HSV 2 (or HSV 1) in one location, it is highly unlikely that you would get it in a new location.
The only way to test for oral HSV 2 is to swab test any lesion that might show up. A blood test won’t help you at all since you both know you already have HSV 2.

Do you know how unlikely it is, statistically?
I have seen only person in my practice of almost 40 years who told me they had a history of cold sores and then presented with a genital HSV 1 infection. That’s it.
