My partner has HSV-1. He’s had a breakout on his lip before, looked like a small yellow blister. He said he’s also felt tingling in his penis but never had a breakout down there (he’s confused about that) so we’ve used condoms ever since he was diagnosed. We also do not make out. He does not want to give it to me so he is veryyy cautious. We had a baby in 2016, so it’s been 6 years he’s had herpes 1, he found out when our kid was 9 mos. We want to have another baby, but he won’t ejaculate in me bc of the hsv1, and wants to do ivf, which I am opposed to. I would rather just not have a baby. Anyways, now that you have background, do you think he will give me hsv1 this way? I’ve been tested twice, I do not have it, recently just 1 week ago. Is our only way Ivf? Is hsv1 carried in semen or only if there’s a sore that is in contact with the semen? The information online is so confusing and also skewed to hsv 2. Thank you for your time
If he has oral herpes but has never had a genital outbreak, it seems unlikely that he has HSV 1 in both locations. I think unprotected with you seems very low risk, to try to get pregnant. He know he has it orally but does not know that he has it genitally, if I’m reading this right. Semen is a poor carrier of HSV and if he has it genitally and has had it for six years, even if he had it genitally, he would be shedding very very rarely. I think he is likely being overly cautious. If he refuses to ejaculate inside of you, he could ejaculate in a jar and use a turkey baster to put the semen inside of you. NO need for IVF
