I am so scared im in nyc dont know where to go from here

That really isn’t high. In fact, we confirm all index values between 1.1 and 3.5 because of false positives. This could be a false positive, though not likely. She could confirm with a herpes western blot (our clinic can order that through a study for people who live in New York). but even if she is truly positive, your contact was very very minimal. I wouldn’t be freaking out at this point. Has she had any symptoms of genital herpes, have you? Have you been tested to know if you might be infected and not know it?

She said she has not had any symptoms i have not gotten tested becuase i felt it was too early to check being it hasnt been a month i dont have any symptoms and am frequently checking should i get tested by say january as a start ? Thank you so much Mrs Warren we would definetly be interested in taking the western blot test through your clinic but to what ive seen online people in nyc have a hard time testing for it here and need to go to new jersey or elsewhere either way its something that we would definetely do and pay for

We can arrange for testing in New York, no problem at all, as we are doing a research study you can participate in and get tested. My office can get you all the details. I think it would be good for you to get a baseline antibody test at this point and it can be the easy screening test that can be done in NYC, the IgG. That’s a place to start anyway. It may be too early to pick up new infection from her if she is indeed infected, but 50% of people who are going to become positive after infection do so by 3 weeks. So who knows exactly at this point. Retesting will be valuable if you are negative, yes.

Thank you how would we go about doing so do we call the number provided on this website for her western blot in nyc do i use this post as reference? And also my contact was very very minimal and that of course if she is indeed is positive my concern is would it be minimal even if she were to have a lesion not that i saw anything while we were having sex just wanted to know if that was your verdict considering all factors and also does it help that ive been hsv1 positive for sometime now? Are there cases where someone has tested neg on the western blot with a score of 3.90 ? Yes i will test after the new year as a start thank you Mrs Warren

All you have to do is call the clinic and arrange a phone consultation and we will take care of the rest of the details with you at that time.
If you are HSV 1 positive, then all that does is to reduce the likelihood that you would have remarkable or any symptoms of HSV 2, should you acquire it. And yes, I have most definitely tested people who have index values of 3.9 or higher who end up testing negative by western blot, especially in the last several months.

Hello terri well its been basically 4 weeks since this story want to get tested after this up coming week which would make it 5 weeks everywhere i go to ask questions they say it is small contact only because the condom broke am i so freaked out even if it were for a second because i did pull out as soon as i noticed everyone tells me i have alot of things going for me condoms were always used except obv for that incident we had sex for 2 days each day about a week apart about 5 7 times top altogether for like 10 15 min each time i dont feel anything or see anything which freaks me out even more because i dont have any of the classic symptoms and that makes me feel worse because i have hsv 1 which makes me think thats why im not feeling anything well i do have these small small tiny red specs like 3 4 inches left and right from my belly button dont itch or anything not blister looking or anything just tiny and they arent close to each other and lik 4 in total seperate from each other and i think what if its because of the hsv 1 what do you think ? Other then that dont see or feel anything

I honestly think your risk is really low. You’ve not had any of the classic signs and your exposure was very limited. If I was a betting woman, I would bet you are not infected.

Hello Mrs Warren happy holidays well she just informed me that since christmas she was seeing a dark yellow discharge not thick just liquid which i guess confirms the hsv 2 which she already went into the proccess of western blot testing thru your clinic though she did tell me that she has not recieved an email or even charged on the card yet so she will be calling tommorow but does this mean its an outbreak? And does this change anything for me in regards your answer about my risk

Herpes is not characterized by a yellow discharge. When people have a discharge with herpes, it tends to be very watery, not yellow. She should be evaluated for any other STD’s that might be around.
Very odd about the western blot. Have her contact Sandra in our office to try to sort this out. Has she already had her blood drawn?

Well she went to the e.r for the discharge and she told me that when the nurse or whoever checked she started to laugh and told her it was a tampon does this even happen? she says she used the small tampon and well guess it got lost when we found out about her hsv results it was off the 10 std panel from stdcheck which everything else was neg and she just recieved the western blot package shell be going to quest tmm and one last question i did not know a hsv 2 ob can look like a paper cut.. for men do they almost always show on penis as ive read i disregarded in the pubic area not penis a small line which looked like a scratch not a deep cut like ive seen in pictures just a red line any thoughts

Losing tampons definitely happens all the time. Pretty interesting huh?
Herpes can look like a paper cut but not usually like a scratch.

For men do these paper cuts almost always appear on the penis not upper pubic area? And are these more open cuts like an actual papercut?

Honestly, the “cut” appearance is more common in women than men but in men, it is usually on the shaft of the penis.

Hello terri well she recieved the western blot kit on monday she couldnt go tues she went on wednesday and they told her because of the holidays they werent sure if the people would come to pick up the samples and the shipping would probably be delayed they recommended monday so the results be acurate and shipped accordingly my question is does the kit or anything have to be stored a certain way for the time being and also if i were to test say 5 wks then 10-12wks past exposure and with my story a negative would you suggest i move on with my life regardless of her results

Quest has a certain way that they want to do it and I would strongly recommend not messing with that. If you test negative at 12 weeks then I think you should feel certain you are out of the woods, in terms of infection from her.

Sorry, that’s what I get for trying to answer questions at 1 am. If you have things inside your anus that are bleeding, you need to have those checked out by a professional. They could be many things but herpes is possibly among them. This is something that needs to be evaluated in person and as soon as it can get done, for greatest accuracy.

Thing is i didnt notice it because if seeing blood drip nor on toilet paper i had to go deep in anus to where i think i couldve done this to myself i am a straight guy and im at 4 weeks since last exposure is it true that after 3 weeks initial ob wouldve happend by now it doesnt hurt when i use the bathroom or anything didnt even itch wen i had checked i was just so eager to check everywhere is it true herpes in anus would be painful and not just itch and is it true inital ob would appear in the area of first contact its just it doesnt hurt jus itches but i figure if i did this to mysself with my nails due to me stretching it would itch like any other cut since i can go about my day without any pain and can use the bathroom regularly do you recommend me just waiting till 8th and 12 week past exposure to blood test

Twitching in your hands or eye or leg probably has nothing at all to do with herpes. A wart on your lower leg also has nothing to do with herpes nor does small hives on your hand. I believe you are obsessing a bit here.

Hello terri well im not sure how many intermediate wb results u get a day but im sure yeserday you recieved the results of a female in nyc who tested intermediate and well that is the person i am going thru this with my is there anyway that her having the wb tested a week after getting the box in the mail due to holidays affect those results (since i dont know what exactly comes in the box)

And well what does this mean for me? According to her her last encounter with her ex or anyone before me was in july going back to our encounter which happend late november till she actually took the wb in early jan thats like 25 weeks rather then the 16 for the wb from july till her time of testing does she have a high chance of testing intermediate again ? And i was thinking if something that with a wb in her sample resembled hsv so they couldnt give it a for sure negative but was low that it jst couldnt be a positve does this boost my chances greatly? Im just confused as to what to do now

The timing absolutely is not impacted by the timing of the draw. That is not a factor at all.
If she has an indeterminate 25 weeks after having sex with anyone, then she is most likely truly negative. We worry most about indeterminates when the contact has been more recent and we worry about not enough time to reflect seroconversion. And yes, she does have a good chance of testing indeterminate again. Some people have an indeterminate because they have a protein in the blood stream that has a similar molecular weight to one of the proteins of HSV 2.

So what does this mean for me should i still test should she test again with a second wb and when should she considering her first wb was at 25wks? the fear of seroconversion like you said is usually with early testing people who test befor the 16 weeks or at 16 or also with people with low positive ranges but because her range wasnt in the low low range and her testing at 25 weeks cancel out the worrys that come with intermediate results? Or at least point heavily in the direction of true negative ?

    • January 25, 2016 at 9:48 pm #11586

This all points heavily in the direction of negative. She could test again at 40 weeks and if still indeterminate should consider herself negative. If she tests positive at that point, then you might want to test again. Otherwise I don’t think you need to test again.

Hello just following up tested earlier this week at the 8 week mark tested neg at 0.11 will test at the 12th week mark to do things by the book but how accurate are the results at the 8 week mark i am pretty confident considering my partner tested indeterminate at 25weeks

    • February 7, 2016 at 8:33 am #11846

I would say the results at 8 weeks out are about 80% accurate? We don’t actually have that number (we only have 6 weeks, which is 70% accurate). I’m feeling positive about this for you!
