Hi terri, I have had hsv2 for 10 years with a total of 5 outbreaks. About 5 years ago I started having burning in the balls of my feet. This has progressed to feelings of numbness kinda like I have invisible socks on both feet.I was diagnosed 4yrs.ago with idiopathic peripheral neuropathy. I am now taking acyclovir for 2 weeks with no difference to the neuropathy. Three md’s and 2 neurologist say that this neuropathy has nothing to do with hsv2. Definitely want to be sure. What can you tell me from all the experience you have had? THANKS

I would agree with the three docs. If you told me that acyclovir made it go away completely, I would say it could have to do with herpes but there are several strikes against this being herpes.
First you went 6 years without this happening, when you had herpes. It is so unlikely that all of a sudden herpes would start making the neuropathy. Second, the meds didn’t help, which is significant. Do you have diabetes? Have you taken anything like Lyrica to help this?

Thanks terri, I have had every blood test you can think of. I do not have diabetes I have been tested several times. I currently take gabapentin for the pain it helps a little. Aside from hsv2 I am very healthy very frustrating trying to figure this out. I maintain a good diet and I am clean and sober of everything. I came across finding you on the Internet with all of your history and experience if you didn’t think that hsv2 was the cause I knew it would help to ease my mind. From all I have read it can cause neuralgia even for lengths of time but nothing like what I am experiencing.

I would agree, Rick. The medicine you are taking should prove to be somewhat helpful. I’m sorry it isn’t more helpful though. I really don’t think this has to do with herpes.
