hi, i have had a pretty exciting year dealing with this, i had sex protected with a girl a year ago and received unprotected oral, im an 18 y/o male. I have HSV-1 since i was little, had cold sores in my mouth and all that. I was on a buisness trip and wasnt able to shower for 2-3 weeks while sweating, masturbating daily. I had some red bumps pop up and a bit of testicular soreness and i went to an ER and a walk in clinic who said it wasnt herpes but a “rash” and one said it was a fungal infection, aka balanitis ive seen countless other doctors who havent been able to help all they’ve mostly given me is cream when the problem has gotten farther than the creams can do, at first i got recommended hydrocortizone cream which irritated it more and caused my urethra to get irritated because it got in there which i had checked out and docs said it was that. It was left untreated and over time it got worst then i was able to get some cream and it fixed the bumps which was anti bacterial cream, i had a false positive for HSV-2. I have not had an outbreak on my groin still a year later, and i have seen multiple docs who have said they dont think its herpes, my foreskin is irritated, sensitive, very dry, red for over a year now my lymphnodes in my groin got bigger, but never honestly hurt. I have seen a muscle therapy doctor which has always said it was a bacterial infection, I dont believe its HSV-1 . i recently was an amoxocillian after a year of dealing with it and it did work a bit, but not much i think its gotten to a bad point over this year. Id just like some closure or help, ive ruled out all STD’s my IGG for type 1 will always be positive since early exposure, and i just dont know what next steps to take. I want to be able to resolve this thank u ! and what steps to take if it is a bacterial infection. Thank u been following this forum a while and it helped me overcome the false positive test i got which was HSV1 igm neg IGG pos (which was high) HSV2 IGM pos IGG neg

Your HSV 1 IgG test will always be positive due to your cold sores. HSV 2 would not last a long time like this has. It sounds far more bacterial to me. Has anyone mentioned the possibility of folliculitis as the cause of the rash?
So how is it that you know that you had a false positive – it was an IgM that was positive followed by a properly timed IgG?Terri

yes i had IGM come positive for HSV2 then 6 months later did another test and IGG for HSV2 came back negative. Should i be worried for type1 causing this or me having it in the groin, or can i put it to rest and move on since it’s been a whole year and haven’t had an outbreak. can lymphnodes be puffed from bacteria? if it were balanitis. and it wasn’t treated properly, can it get more severe and cause other problems? like my lymph nodes how my skin feels and all that? if so i’ll resolve the bacteria causing this. my foreskin is very dry skin wise, and red and irritated. thank you so much for ur reply and ur doing amazing with this forum.

okay so i saw another doctor who did a muscle test on me. she said she found in my “system” Chlamydia bacteria, fungus, and aswell herpes simplex 1, she said it’s from my mouth and she doesn’t believe anything happening in my groin has to do with herpes. i’m still a bit nervous but would like ur opinion on all of this. i’m taking some natural medicine to clear up the chlamydia and fungus and suppress the virus in my mouth i’m guessing

WHAT? She found chlamydia and a fungal infection from a muscle test? I don’t understand what you mean. Chlamydia is diagnosed via either a urethral swab or a urine sample. Your statement worries me greatly – please clarify. And what is the treatment? The appropriate treatment for chlamydia is either doxycycline or azithromycin.
I don’t think you need to be worried about HSV 1 in the groin area, no. And with a negative IgG for HSV 2, you can rule that out with 92% certainty.Terri

okay so, they tested viruses and bacteria from my stomach with the virus in their hand to see if i reacted for it. and during this i reacted for small trace of bacteria from Chlamydia, and HSV1. They’re very reliable in helping people and are MD’s so i’m a bit more worried she said it was HSV1 in my system. she was fairly uninformed ab HSV though trying to tell me right when it’s on ur groin it’s HSV2 not 1. i’m just very confused and upset and i need some certainty i don’t have it. They’ve given me meds for it and have said HSV1 is in my system but couldn’t tell me where it was. all they said was it was in my system and believed what “bacterial” problem i was having was from the traces of chlamydia. i’m still worried and want 100% certainty i don’t have type 1 on my groin. I’m just really confused, heard so much stuff from so many doctors to the point where i’m lost.

I’m so sorry but this is total bull! You cannot test for chlamydia from your stomach, at least not the STI chlamydia. As for herpes, it can only be tested for from a lesion swab (PCR) or a blood antibody test. The only part of this that is true is that IF you have a blood antibody test and it is positive for HSV 1, you cannot know if the infection is oral or genital, only that you have it (as does 50% of the population). This is all just outrageous and I think you should see if they are ND’s or MD’s – very different things. And what do you mean that they had virus in their hand? I know you aren’t a medical person and it’s hard to know what to believe but this is total crap, sorry. If you would like another opinion about this, please post on the ASHA website for $25 and ask Drs. Handsfield and Hook about this. They are the two leading experts in sexually transmitted infections in the US. I can promise you that if you post what you posted here for them to see, they will confirm this opinion. And what medication are you taking for herpes and/or chlamydia?

okay i understand, i did do the blood test and HSV1 was positive due to me having cold sores since i was like 7. I’m taking some natural medicine and herbs for it. the herpes one still had me confused. as I have it in my mouth and it is in my system. and i have whatever is going on in my groin and the red bumps i had back when it started due to poor hygiene, and my lymph nodes worked up and my skin still being effected. I don’t know when it’s safe to say i don’t gave it on my groin and it’s something else which is kind of what i wanted help with. it’s been a whole year and 2 months and no outbreak on my groin. It’s so stressful because any small red bump or irritated veins or whatever i see on my foreskin makes me instantly think it’s herpes and think the worst. Then the next day it’s either gone or it doesn’t get larger like regular herpes does. Could u help me draw that conclusion? No one i’ve talked to believes i have it. but i just feel like hopeless, and want some sort of certainty i don’t. so it stops taking up so much of my worries.
And yes i know, it’s kind of hard to believe too. i had one doc test HSV2 and it came positive from muscle testing. but on blood test it was negative. so it’s a bit confusing and up in the air on the “legitness” of it. but im trying everything to do to resolve this. and this practice was an option since no docs up to this point could help.

If you have a long history of cold sores since childhood, it would be EXTREMELY unusual for you to get it in a new location on your body. Your genital issue do NOT sound like herpes to me. If you are still worried about what’s going on with foreskin, you could ask to have a PCR swab done of the area.
There is no muscle testing for herpes, only blood antibody testing or testing of lesions. This is your final post on this subscription. If you have more questions, feel free to renew.
