Got a full STD panel about a month ago, got the results back and said I had antibodies for HSV 2. Never had any OB of which i was aware of. The doctor told me that having antibodies that I was once exposed to HSV 2 at some point in my life. They never gave me an Index value of what it was at. Now that I’m aware of the results I’ve been freaking out and checking down there everyday. It’s getting to the point where I’m overthinking everything and any change im assuming that I’m getting an OB. I would like to get your option and follow up with a WB test for peace of mind
Also, I took my STD test at a minute clinic and seen my PC about the results. He told me that those tests are inaccurate and probably picked up my HSV 1 (which I knew I had) and gave it a positive for HSV 2. I seen him 3 different times to check down there to see if anything resembled an OB, which he told me no and that I don’t have it. On top of it all Ive recently got diagnosed with prostatitis, which has been giving me some symptoms.
It would be important to know the index value and was it an IgG test or IgM? There are certainly some false positives on this test, yes. And there can be some cross reactivity between HSV 1 and HSV 2 on the IgG test. The best confirmatory test is the herpes western blot from the University of Washington. Anyone can order it from them (a health care provider, that is). You can call 206-685-6066 to order the kit that is necessary to get the test.
