I just tested back in August and everything was negative I have not had any signs of herpes anywhere could this be a false positive? should I wait to get tested again?please help

I’m wondering if your test in August actually included HSV 1. Did you check? Did you do the IgG only both times? What lab did the testing? Was it the same lab both times?Have you ever in your life had a cold sore on your lips?

Hi Terri,
Yes in August it also included HSV 1 and 2 they were both negative. I did do the IgG both times and they have both been with LabCorp. I have never had a cold sore on my lips ever.I am just worried as I started a new relationship and do not if to even disclose this, should I wait to get tested again? Does the 12.30 number matter at all? So my HSV1 is oral correct not genital? please help

Something is clearly wrong here unless you feel there is a reasonable chance you have been infected in between. What kind of sexual contacts have you had in between the two draw dates?

I do not think I have been infected I have no signs of it. I have had unprotected sex in October and now in December with two different women. I am just very concerned since of test came back positive and the number was high 12.30 does that even matter? What advice would you give me?thank you

If you were my patient, I would test you a second time and see which is correct – the latest test or the previous test. Please consider getting a second test. If the first one was in error and this one is confirmed with another test, then you have HSV 1 infection. Where you have it is unknown, though. It could be oral or genital, there is no way to know for certain since you have had no symptoms either orally or genitally. Is that correct? You have had three sexual contacts that are likely reflected in this test result. You could have acquired herpes from any of them. My suggestion is to get yet another test.

Hey Terri,
I got a second test last friday for hsv 1 and hsv 2. It came back positive again for HSV1 and negative for HSV2 , the one thing that was different was my value range the first positive test gave me a value range of 12 and now it is 9.What does that mean does this now definitely mean I have HSV 1? please help

Yes, this means that you are definitely positive for HSV 1. My best guess is that your first test missed your HSV 1 infection Did you have the same lab do all three tests?
If you have never had a cold sore or genital lesion, we cannot know where your infection is located on your body. If you have any symptoms in either location, you should have it evaluated right away by the sensitive PCR swab test.

Why does the value range keep going down? would it benefit me at all to take the WB test ?

I would say that your values are pretty high. If you were our patient we would not recommend a western blot unless the patient really wanted to do it for their own reassurance. Your call. I don’t really think the differences are remarkable in the two ELISA tests.
