Hi Terri,
27yo female, I recently took a Quest igg test that came back negative for HSV1 but positive for HSV2 – levels were 7.62.
I have heard that taking supplements can cause a false positive. I currently take an array of supplements including biotin, collagen, ashwghanda, CLA, a multivitamin and a few others.
Could my test being on the ‘lower’ side possibly be from the supplements?
I’ve NEVER experienced any symptoms of herpes, although I know it’s common to not have symptoms.
Also may I add that my varicella tests came back pretty high for antibodies – over 600. Not sure if this may be a cause as well.
We are not aware that any supplements cause a false positive on the HSV-2 IgG antibody test. However, this test has false positives, and last week alone I had someone with an index value of eight not confirmed by western blot. The herpes western blot from the University of Washington is the gold standard antibody test. If you want to know if you have HSV two for certain, that is the test that you need to get. I think herpes is likely in your situation with that index value but it’s not certain.

Could my high varicella antibody count trigger a positive herpes test?
No, I don’t think that’s the cause of your relatively high HSV 2 index value. But I have seen false positives at this value.
Terri
